Try to befriend a german online, maybe somebody who wants to learn your language in return so you could take turns talking in either language. Not sure if that makes sense.
German is a complex language to learn by yourself. I highly recommend courses or classes with multiple people in them. I used to teach in these language schools. They usually work quite nicely. A private teacher is also a good idea. I don’t have much good to say about tandems or study groups but your milage may vary.
In German there is a difference between the subject of a sentence and the object of a sentence. For the subject you use “der/die/das” (Nominativ) and for the object it’s “den/die/das” (Akkusativ). Of course there isn’t a special form of “die” or “das” just to mess with your head a little, since it’s German.
I’ll hang around here, I’m looking for resources to start. People tend to recommend duolingo but tbh I didn’t like it, it feels too random. On the other hand regular school books are boring so I have to find something else.
(Was ist hier besser?
(Was ist hier besser? Menschen oder Leute?)
Danke.
“Leute” passt hier besser.
I’d simply ask:
“Gibt es hier weitere geflüchtete Frauen?”
The use of “weitere” implies that you yourself are a woman.
I was born in Cambodia but speak English well enough (C1) to have taught it as a substitute teacher. I’ve recently begun trying to learn German on the cheapest possible budget with the help of Creative Commons materials like “A Foundation Course in Reading German” and a used copy of Routledge’s 2004 “Basic German grammar and workbook.” I also downloaded the free and surprisingly comprehensive bidirectional dictionary app QuickDic from quickdic.org/index_e.html. My goal is to be able to read conversations on German-only tech forums and on Mastodon with a fair level of comprehension. I used to enjoy reading the /German subreddit before the recent “troubles” there.
Unfortunately I realized that your comment is the only one I can see so far on my instance (kbin.cafe) even though there are some other comments as well which I saw on the original instance of the community. Seems like the federation isn’t working well here. :(
So, if I happen to not answer to any questions: I’m not ignoring you, it’s probably rather some federation issues that are getting in our way.
But I’m confident that this will get better with further development. :)
