I have three, I’m a car enthusiast. I want to enjoy my car without the entirety of society being required to own them to exist.
Even if the dream is achieved and taking my car is more expensive and slower than public transit (which it should be), I’d still drive most of the time because I actually enjoy it. I’d rather not share the road with people that also actually want to be there. It’d be a safer and more pleasant experience.
I use a frame lock for the back wheel(which has the motor) and a chain which I use to lock the frame to the bike stand.
If I’m leaving the bike for just 15 minutes I leave battery in. Longer than that I take the battery with me. Noone is going to try to steal an ebike without a battery when there’s people around. The bike looses half of its value without it, since it will be harder to sell.
I always leave my helmet on the bike (it’s like 10 bucks). If there are people that are desperate enough to steal my helmet, it’s a good indicator that I should never park there again.
I was a bit worried about leaving my bike unattended at first, but I’ve grown out of it. Also, my bike is covered by my home insurance, so the monetary risk is low.
Vote with your wallet when it comes to bike racks, choose businesses with bike racks that reach the frame and not just the front wheel.
just a heads up, this method of polling won’t account for people on instances without downvote turned on, like mine. hopefully we’re statistically insignificant enough not to skew your results
I have a car, but I don’t want to. My work or any interesting shopping is about 6 miles away, mostly uphill on a highway in a very desert-like area so I couldn’t comfortably bike, and the public transportation is practically nonexistent (and was recently cut to not run on the weekend at all).
I do take my bike most weekends when I can, though. It’s been a great experience.
Might just be my experience but in the UK at least, it’s almost exclusively women who drive cars like this. Men more commonly drive vans and super large vehicles to be fair, but specifically larger than necessary, non-tradesman style cars (Land Rovers, very clean, empty pick-ups etc.)
Have one to look at on google maps. Not too different other than the parking spaces being way smaller. Do note the cycle path though, recognizable by the red asphalt. Cycling to this place is super doable, and they have a sit-down dining area if you do.
Note too how this is in an industrial park, if you go north-west a bit you’ll find a residential area which is MUCH less made for cars than the industrial park.
