HoornseBakfiets,

After moving to an induction cooker, I threw out my over used Teflon/Ceramic pans for stainless steel pans. Best decision ever.

MarkHughes4096,

Not if you drop it on your foot it’s not.

Is this a joke?

botengang,

Do people in the us not use stainless steel pots, usually?

alcyoneous,

From my experience in the US, most use teflon-lined/non-stick pots and pans

furrowsofar,

We do not have Teflon nonstick pans. Most of our stuff is stainless or cast iron. Yes, I live in the US. My mom uses a fair amount of glass too… well actually Pyrex. I have seen some cheap aluminum stuff too.

I guess our waffle iron is basically Teflon. Lot of cheap electric fry pans are too but we do not have one though.

ricecake,

In my experience it’s perfectly common.

furrowsofar,

Some people worry about everything. For example the article talked about chromium being a good thing but in fact there are forms that are carcinogenic. Stainless also often have other trace elements. All comes down to details and what you care about and article does not really address any of that. They even suggest damaged cookware is somehow worse when stainless is self healing. Seems more of an add then real information.

For me it all comes down to stability. Glass is probably the best, stainless next best just in terms of stability and melting points etc. On the other hand plastic, Teflon, and aluminum… this stuff has a lot lower melting point and a lot of of it has lot less stability. There is a question about contact time too. If your worried about this maybe it is better not to store stuff in plastic for example especially wet or liquids that have a lot of intimate contact. Or better not to microwave stuff in plastic.

It is all a trade off. Personally For me I prefer glass or stainless myself.
