New Coffee Arrivals!

I won’t be trying any until tomorrow as they just arrived this evening but I’m excited and couldn’t wait until I actually brewed them. It’ll be my first whole bean coffee. I’ll probably need to bust out my small French press though so I can get the grinder figured out with smaller brews. They’re only 4 oz sample bags so its not a ton to play around with. I’ll make sure to pop back and share thoughts as I try them.

birdpatch,

Oh nice! First whole bean is really exciting. Tinker is pretty good too. If you live in that area, my favorite roaster around there is probably Indie Coffee Roasters (www.indiecoffeeroasters.com). It’s been a long time since I had Tinker coffee.

How’d you like the coffees?

Dravin,

I’m quite enjoying all three. Though I think the Rutas del Inca is my favorite of the bunch. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll have to keep them in mind.

Dravin,

So I tried the Honduras Marcala Honey. I’m still dialing it in so this is not the coffee at the best it can be.

I’m getting blackstrap molasses, light caramel, baking spices, and a light sweet fruitiness that is reminiscent of how a sourdough start can smell fruity. While a bit incongruent with it being the middle of summer it has a nice holiday feel going on. It has a lighter body than I’m used to but I’m used to ‘medium’ grocery store roasts so that isn’t surprising. I think I need to coarsen up my grind a bit for my French press thought as it was a touch on the bitter side but figuring out sweet spots is part of the fun of things. At the end of the day I’m enjoying it.

becausechemistry,

One of the great parts of my recent move to Indy is being able to just walk down the street to their shop and grab a bag. Tinker’s stuff is excellent.

Dravin,

Being walking distance would be nice. I’m driving distance but the flat rate shipping is worth the price just to avoid the North split in my mind.

danhasnolife,

First whole bean coffee? Oh man, welcome to the good stuff.

No matter what coffee purists tell you, the single best change to my daily coffee quality of life was simply going from ground to grinding fresh whole beans every morning. I will never go back.

HidingCat,

Isn't that what coffee purists say? There's a roaster here that won't even sell ground coffee, only beans, for example. What do they normally say from your experience?

Potato,

I’d love to hear how the decaf is.

Dravin,

I’ll probably crack open the decaf this afternoon. I’m not particularly caffeine sensitive but I get up early for work so I’m careful about how late in the day I consume caffeine. I’m hoping a nice decaf will open up some options for a later in the day coffee.

Dravin,

I shared my thoughts on the decaf.

MaxVoltage,

I feel the same way about hemp products
