@bookstodon This book release week in the U.S. is too abbreviated for a list.

So, I will turn things around and ask you all to tell us about a great book released in 2023 that you loved. ❤📚❤

(Or if you didn't read any 2023 releases, any one book you keep recommending to everyone!)

@fskornia @bookstodon Great list! And Frank, if I ever get you to read one (short) book, I hope it is Malka Ann Older's ... and Other Disasters. (The Ellipses are part of the actual title.) 😊

@stina_marie @bookstodon At this moment (of the 21 I've selected as best of 2023, so far) I would say the top three are:

Clytemnestra, Costanza Cosati
Black River Orchard, Chuck Wendig
Chain-Gang All-Stars, Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon Awesome. I had Black River Orchard on my list already but I'll add the other two if they sound intriguing to me. Thanks!

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon North Woods by Daniel Mason. Fantastic, sprawling novel featuring multiple generations / families that live in a house in the New England woods. A bit spooky, a bit magical, lots of nature and human nature, apples, history, and a big cat. Highly recommended!

@Funktious @kimlockhartga @bookstodon I just finished North Woods. It is a remarkable book. It is a climate change book with a twist; it really unfolds the impact of human interaction with nature focusing on one forest in Massachusetts and beginning with how it was at the dawn of European contact. The author moves the reader through the arc of generations to today and even our future, a kind of genealogy of the woods through the 17th century to now. The characters that build a house, work the land, are quirky, often weird, and not always sane. The apples are a central motif by which the whole story can be known. To me, the book details a tragedy and I was very sad when I finished it.
