You know the drill, @bookstodon Whatcha reading this weekend? ❤📚👀

I finished WE ARE THE CRISIS, the excellent second installment of Cadwell Turnbull's Convergence Saga. NO GODS, NO MONSTERS was the first book.

I'm currently reading Ed Park's bizarro SAME BED DIFFERENT DREAMS.

Next up: THE FUTURE, by Naomi Alderman, author of THE POWER.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon “Post Captain” by Patrick O’Brian. The second in the series after ‘Master and Commander’.
Insanely entertaining. So good.
Time magazine once said: ‘If Jane Austen had written rousing sea yarns, she would have produced something very close to the prose of Patrick O’Brian.’

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon I was also listening to Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks but her voice gets a bit annoying, so I’ve let my copy on BorrowBox expire.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon I’m listening to Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi; reading Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry (ebook on my phone, loving it); and sort of not enjoying Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov (paperback). I was reading a little bit of Waking Up by Sam Harris every now and then, but it’s due back at the library so I won’t be able to finish it for a while.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon just finished “The Enigma of Room 622” by Joel Decker last night. Definitely good, well written and interesting. Never read a murder mystery before where you have to guess at who is killed until 2/3 of the way through. A little too meta at the very end. Just starting “The Man in the Queue” by Josephine Tey today.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon I'm reading The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. I'm about a quarter of the way through and it's really enjoyable so far!

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon I will be starting Never Let Me Go and Study of Obedience this weekend.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon I am reading 'More than you can say' by Paul Torday at the moment.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon I’m halfway through Happy All the Time by Laurie Colwin and listening to Deacon King Kong by James McBride. I’m struggling to connect with the first book but finding the second a very engrossing listen.

@Abibliophobia @bookstodon Deacon King Kong is so good!

@kimlockhartga @Abibliophobia @bookstodon I love it, and also The Good Lord Bird and his latest, The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store. Huge McBride fangirl.

@jillrhudy @kimlockhartga @bookstodon This is my first James McBride book, but his writing is so divine that I now need to read all the rest!

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon I'm still reading The Reformatory by Tananarive Due. I haven't had much reading time lately so it's slow going even though it's really good.

@kimlockhartga@beige.party avatar

@Well_Worth_A_Read @bookstodon good to know. I plan to read that one.

A couple weeks ago, I ran across my trade paperback of WHAT WE TALK ABOUT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT LOVE in a box while looking for something else. Carver's short-short stories are my favorites.

@Cheery @kimlockhartga @bookstodon Finishng The Glutton by AK Blakemore. Starting something from the TBR pile by my bed, and catching up on issues of Noble Rot magazine.

@arratoon @Cheery @bookstodon How was THE GLUTTON?

arratoon,
@arratoon@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@kimlockhartga @Cheery @bookstodon It was impressive but I preferred The Manningtree Witches. Her writing is so stunningly precise but I admired The Glutton rather than loved it.

@Cheery @kimlockhartga @bookstodon Do you like Nesbo? I read The Snowman, and found it very predictable.
So haven't been encouraged to try others.

@SteveClough @kimlockhartga @bookstodon I read The Snowman also and enjoyed it, so I'm going back to read the first in the series.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon i see your next repost, and, coincidentally, i'm on my second Le Guin book in a row! yes, we should all be reading more Ursula Le Guin 😌

@kimlockhartga still trudging through audiobook Determined by Robert Sapolsky. Not very accessible I'm afraid, even though I'm already on board the "no free will" train. @bookstodon

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon listening to the late Matthew Perry narrating his autobiography (I've never seen a full episode of Friends, and not a fan, so a lot of what fans already know is new to me.). Very intense
