@bookstodon Do you feel like your reading luck follows a wave pattern, or is that just our innate need to seek order out of chance? I'm afraid to start reading something new, after reading three good books in a row, which is silly, I know.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon Yes, I think that’s why I will so often re-read something after reading a few books I really liked. I’m not ready to commit to something new yet

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon Sometimes I do, sometimes it’s just a crapshoot! Another strange thing that’s happened over a lifetime of reading: I will go haphazardly from one book to another & in the very next book, there will either be a character name or place that was in the last book. I’m not referring to reading the next book in a series, nor am I referring to a commonplace name like “Bob”, but rather a somewhat obscure name. Has that ever happened to you? I know it sounds slightly crazy.

This happened to me this week. Two novels both having a character with the name Robert Thomas. Quite a coincidence.

And I do have these waves of good and lesser books as well. I tend to think that this depends on how favorable the reading gods are treating me :) But it's probably more about my mood.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon Yeah, for sure. Our moods come and go in waves, so our perception / enjoyment of the books we read does too.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon It's probably just pattern seeking, but I've had that same feeling. Sometimes I try to swerve around it with a drastic genre or format change.
