I love data/tech, the outdoors, music, geeky stuff (including but not limited to sci fi, fantasy, DnD, Broadway), and nerding out about interesting and esoteric topics. Confusing expectations since the early 80s.

As a reader, do you prefer when people give you random books as gifts, or do you prefer getting a gift card to a bookstore (so you can pick the book)? Just curious.

Unless I’m asked about a specific book, I prefer the bookstore card 📚

@Likewise @bookstodon Gift card all the way. My taste is books seldom lines up with other people’s. 😆

We talk about achievement. About goals. Setting them. Reaching them. About getting somewhere, becoming something. But what happens the morning after? What happens the next day? After the parade, the party. After they sweep the confetti away. What happens when the big moment fades? Maybe it's never been greatness we were after, but a baseline standard of enoughness brought to our days.

@duanetoops @bookstodon “A baseline standard of roughness.” Yes. Achievement not for itself or the goal but because it’s expected.

Tell me a good book you’ve read this year that you’d recommend.

I’ll start: Crow Mary by Kathleen Grissom

@bookstodon Do you feel like your reading luck follows a wave pattern, or is that just our innate need to seek order out of chance? I'm afraid to start reading something new, after reading three good books in a row, which is silly, I know.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon Yes, I think that’s why I will so often re-read something after reading a few books I really liked. I’m not ready to commit to something new yet
