What are your thoughts on "Prompt Engineering"

As I understand it, “Prompt Engineering” is writing questions for a large language model AI.

Apart from the further overuse of the term “Engineer”, it seems a bit like bullshit to me. Not that it’s bullshit to ask a LLM questions, but that it’s bullshit to suddenly base a career on asking a LLM questions.

What are your thoughts on “Prompt Engineering”?

I see it just like adding “Microsoft Excel - Intermediary” to your resumé.

It’s a skill that will be considered minorly mandatory for jobs that require a lot of writing or maybe even graphical design, but it’s so trivial it’s never going to be used as the main deciding factor nor as something special about you.

And for sure not a type of engineering, as that assumes some kind of applied science.
