Can anyone help me understand how close the performance and battery life is between the three phones? I’m in the USA so the chip will be Qualcomm between the Samsung models.
My wife and I are trying to decide if we need the latest and greatest or if we should save some money. But, I wanted to know the trade offs.
Any perspectives on how they perform, the battery, the features, the longevity would be greatly appreciated!
I can compare s22 and s23. Had s22 for almost 3 months. The only disadvantage of S22 is battery. It was really awful, I had 3.5 to 4 hours of SOT. Had to carry charger with me cuz I didn’t trust the battery. After the release of S23, I switched, they’re almost identical, design wise. Doesn’t felt any performance improvements cuz s22 is still powerful. But the battery on S23 is awesome after S22. My SOT at least 6 hours. I’m happy without carrying charger with me.
I recently purchased the S23+. Was debating between it and the 7 Pro, or even waiting for the Pixel 8 Pro. I ultimately decided to get the S23+ due to a deal going on. My biggest requirement was a good battery life and camera, and I can say the S23+ is doing fantastic so far. The issue with the Pixel series is the abysmal battery life and software issues/bugs which ultimately lead me away from it.
I think if you want a Pixel, wait until the 8 series comes out as hopefully Google will improve efficiency with their Tensor 3 chip. The flat screen on the 8 Pro vs the 7 Pro is also a big plus in my opinion. Otherwise, if you need a phone now then I would recommend the S23 series over Google’s offerings.
I appreciate the insight. I have that same feeling with Google. I want to like their phones and I appreciate the cleaner OS, but Samsung is doing so well lately it’s hard to debate. They have better battery, more features, and cameras that are comparable. It seems like they have a winning formula on their hands.
From what I’ve seen, 23u has a good 3 hours extra battery life compared to the 22u and it will run cooler. I think in regards to any of these phones, performance is gonna be great and negligible.
I prefer Samsung over pixels these days, mostly because I feel like Google has some flaws with software bugs and I’m not a fan of their new quick toggle menu compared to the older one that Samsung still uses. And I prefer good lock mostly just to move the clock back to the right side of the notification bar.
But if you prefer pixels phones, I think battery life will be on par with the last year snapdragon phones if not slightly worse
As time has gone on, I agree with you. Samsung has definitely grown on me over the years. Their software seems pretty efficient and light given the amount of extra features. Of course Pixel skin is lighter, but I don’t notice the sluggishness of Samsung Experience or TouchWiz.

Most recently I’ve owned and used an S21 ultra (had it since launch and kept for a bit over 2 years), a Pixel 7 pro, and an S23 ultra.
I’m very disappointed with the pixel 7 series. I came from a 6 pro and the cellular modem was the reason why, and the pixel 7 pro cellular, while improved, was still unreliable and slower than qualcomm-based ones in the S21 and S23 series. I’m not talking in the context of “the S23 gets 900mbps down while my 7 pro only gets 450mbps”–there are real cases and situations where my S23 ultra has no intteruptions in cellular while my 7 pro struggles, has intermittent cutouts, and is very frustrating. In the same locations and same times.
The biggest issue with my 7 pro is battery life. It’s pretty terrible. For my usage, I take it off the charger at 100% at 7:45 in the morning, use it mostly indoors on wifi most of the day, no 5g, no taxing use, no games, and after 2.5h of screen on time over the period of 12h, it’s easily down to 35% battery max. There’s basically no battery longevity. My wife recently got a pixel 7a from a pixel 5 and her battery is equally awful. Google’s tensor SOC is just very inefficient. We took a short overnight trip for an outdoor wedding, and the day of the wedding when I took a reasonable amount of photos and videos–nothing extreme–I had to charge up my 7 pro in the middle of the day. Plus the thing was COOKING when i was taking photos and videos during the wedding. The display brightness dimmed down to the point of being unusable. Other than the 6 pro, I’ve never had any phone behave like this under similar situations.
Like I mentioned I went from my 7 pro to an S23 ultra, primarily motivated by battery life, and the experience has been amazing. With the same usage on my phone as I outlined above, my S23 ultra is rarely below 70% battery over the same period of time. It doesn’t get warm–at all. Cellular reliability is great.
I go between google and samsung phones a lot. I like aspects of both softwares a lot. I find I miss many of samsung’s software additions in lots of ways because they are sometimes-niche things that make general use better/easier. That may be one thing you should also consider beyond just performance, battery life, and specs.
If you are deciding between the S23 and S22 series, I would say that while most things are generally similar between them–even on the ultra with the changes to the camera the actual results aren’t really significant–the big thing is battery life and thermals. The 8 gen 1 in the S22 was not very efficient. the 8+ gen 2 in the S23 is a significant jump in efficiency, and that is reflected by battery life. As far as performance goes, you’re very unlikely to notice an experience difference in virtually everything that one does with a phone.
Well comes down to your personal preference and that can take some time to develop.

If you want the same feeling of ecosystem then Samsung devices are the leader for Android with Google coming second. This is when you are comparing with the Apple Ecosystem.
Well here are my few thoughts on Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel.
Camera: Google Pixel for Still Photos is one of the best on the market Everything else Samsung Galaxy. I find that Samsung over processes the photos to make it look great on their devices. Take the same photo outside of Samsung and it will look different.
Battery Life: Samsung Devices with the slight edge if you get the S23 Ultra then that will be better for battery life. However, both brands for me will last the day easily which is what I ask for in all my devices.
Features (including exclusive features): If you want to screen your calls then it’s Google Pixel it has made SPAM calls become less and less over time.
Using HDMI to TV or Monitor (for me) Samsung Galaxy takes it for this one. Pixel doesn’t support HDMI output if you’re using a USB-C to HDMI. You have to use a DisplayLink Dock in order to have this the amount of times I’ve gone to a Hotel and just want to plug into a HDMI port instead of using Chromecast over the Hotel WiFI connection for privacy reasons makes me sad on a pixel. This is why I still have a Samsung Galaxy Tab in my travel kit.
There are plenty more but the post will be super long… and if you’re read this far then you are more patient then others. Hope this helps

We got a base S23 via our carrier for no additional charge. I have a 7 pro and used the S23 for a few days and for my usage, the battery life was significantly better.
Wow! That’s really impressive given the size difference of the batteries. You would think that the Pixel would have longer life even with a less efficient chip.

Pixel and Graphene OS are the only combo that exists any more IMO. You can take full ownership over yourself again. I’ve bought two in a row just for this combo after having every other Samy S Flag from 3-9. I’ll never go back or to the fruit. I am not a slave to my device’s bloatware and no one is stalking me recording everything I do and say 24/7 like when a phone has google services garbage baked in. I could run that stuff sandbox on Graphene if I wanted to but F that. I don’t need or want that trash.
I moved from the S22 to the S23 and I love it. The S22 was truly awful when it comes to battery life. Turning on 120hz refresh would literally lower the percentage of the battery by the minute. The S23 is amazing, , no more battery anxiety knowing that at the end of the day I still have enough to keep me going.
