Very thoughtful piece on how a post-Twitter social media landscape may impact academics. Fragmentation will require some choices.

I particularly like the idea universities should embrace platforms for their networking, and not just publicity, potential.

@gpollara @academicchatter totally agree, I honestly find the communication strategies of academic institution a bit baffling sometimes... if they have strategies at all

@LucillaPiccari @academicchatter yeah, i think TBH, there is often not a strategy. They are predominantly reactive to use of en vogue platforms. It's seen as lower priority to the many other demands universities have, with reason I think.

@gpollara @LucillaPiccari @academicchatter oh comms is sooooooo awful. We have some academics who just happen to be amazing at it, and we do okay reaching out to students on TikTok/Insta to tell them about things, but that sort of community building/networking aspect is only ever addressed at random and by happenstance it seems.

@jnyrose @LucillaPiccari @academicchatter interesting and echoes my own experience. The twitter implosion has highlighted the importance of network building because it was good at that (genuinely!) and now its potential demise has left a lot of people scratching their chins thinking about what to do next, as well as realising how it can be a useful tool when used appropriately.

@gpollara @academicchatter This comes close to what the original was supposed to be. Looking forward to it.
