So the game has been out for a while now and I've put in a little over 5 hours so far. I have to say it's a fantastic game, but any similarities to animal crossing are just misleading haha. A lot of it is a bit like a "tycoon management" sorta thing, running between different buildings to craft stuff using resources (everything gets a timer) along with planting/harvesting. There's also island decoration and it's quite flexible and in-depth.

There's animal crossing style fishing as well as catching butterflies (but no other bugs). but that's about where the similarities end. you don't have a house, other "villagers" don't have a house and aren't really as chatty as animal crossing villagers. its not a real-time system, no day/night cycle, no museum, etc.

rather the core of the game is more about gardening and crafting, along with decorating the island (decorating is entirely optional).

It's a lot of fun though. The first game in this series, Pretty Princess Party is also fantastic and ends up playing a lot like I believe animal crossing happy home designer does, where you decorate rooms/houses according to themes. that one is a lot of fun too.

I'd recommend both games :) they're super cute and fun.

Auster, (edited ) in Hello Kitty Island Adventure is now REAL and coming out July 28! Only for Apple Arcade though.

Artificial exclusivity and on a subscription service of all places, and it isn't the first game I find out about a game that is/was an exclusive there...

Now that EGS seems a bit less predatory, it almost feels like Apple is trying to take the place. T-T

yup. though apparently apple arcade stuff is downloaded and playable offline, so it's very possible that some sort of crack can happen, though idk how likely that is? it's for mac os apparently though not just ios.

I have Apple Arcade from all the other bullshit I pay apple for, I have no idea how to go about cracking something, but perhaps I could provide a file for someone who does?

I just managed to get my old mac updated to big sur and apparently I can run it. I downloaded cooking mama as a test and it looks like a regular mac app running a unity game lol. idk where any sort of drm/login check is happening. I'll have to experiment further. should be easy enough though to download the .app and back it up onto an external drive so mac doesn't auto-delete it (idk if it does that). it might be the case that it just logs in upon boot, and if that's what's going on, theoretically it should be easy enough to just swap the launcher with something that doesn't rely on apple login?

I'm not an expert in cracking games but I do a lot of RE work. now that I got my mac setup for it, I'll definitely take a look when it releases.

hill, in I don't get why game companies do this. Same game, but the one on the left is JP boxart, while the one on the right is EU.

There's a number of reasons this can happen, a few just off the top of my head would be;

The box/cover art is created by the publisher, the developer usually doesn't have a say unless they also publish it. You can see on both of your examples that the games have different publishers for the different regions, 505 vs Arc and Spike vs Ubisoft.

The American/European publishers know that the Japanese cover art won't sell as well in their region as it would in Japan and vice versa.

The name of the game sometimes changes with region such as the game 'Imagine Ballet Dancer' this is fine in the English speaking territories, that doesn't translate properly over to Japanese though so it becomes 'Princess Ballerina', the publisher feels the name now has completely different connotations and they start making radical changes, not just to the box/cover art but sometimes the entire game.
