garrettw87, in Now that you've used Lemmy and /kbin which do you prefer and why?
@garrettw87@kbin.social avatar

I haven't created a Lemmy account, and I probably won't. I chose Kbin primarily because it's written in PHP which gives me the best opportunity to contribute, since I know the language. Haven't done much of that yet, but I am watching development and it's very active. Lots of community involvement and people trying to help. Ernest is overwhelmed but steadily working on scaling up the entire operation (infrastructure, organization, processes, etc.) with help from some great people.

I used kbin during the blackout but I've been liking the ui of lemmy a bit better.

Flyingtiger188, in Now that you've used Lemmy and /kbin which do you prefer and why?

Desktop - Kbin. Android - Lemmy. Mobile apps for Lemmy instances are far more function than the mobile site for kbin.

Prefer Kbin, I feel the interface is cleaner and more true to the Fediverse. My complaints are A) It's really hard to just look at a list of your magazines and B) why is the reply box at the bottom of the page?

Lemmy. Idk, I tried it first, enjoyed it. I made a kbin account to test it out too and found a few features I preferred less there. I also remember the name lemmy easier than kbin.

Prouvaire, in Now that you've used Lemmy and /kbin which do you prefer and why?

Kbin also has this karma/points system which feels odd. It skews into the negative VERY easily and is displayed on your profile

I agree this is odd and unintuitive. @ernest is aware of this issue: https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/80

It's probably related to the issue of how upvotes, downvotes and favourites are treated in kbin, lemmy and mastodon (and other fediverse apps). See https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/3

turbodog, in What country do you recommend for visiting?

Ive liked several cities in Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice) and they all kind of have their own vibes. Also very accommodating to tourists the three times Ive been.

cabbages, in What's your idea of relaxation/a relaxing time?
@cabbages@kbin.social avatar

Sitting outside at dusk watching the lightening bugs come out, with a drink, and my dog at my feet.

Shortcake, in What country do you recommend for visiting?

switzerland, ireland, the netherlands

    Communism isn't the problem there

    Cloudless,
    @Cloudless@kbin.social avatar

    Any criticism to the CCP/Russia being censored is a problem.

    Agreed

    kosure, in I just found out that the people onboard the Titan submarine are dead. Is OceanGate in trouble?
    @kosure@kbin.social avatar

    IANAL, but I imagine that being in the middle of the ocean would provide some immunity because the "crime" was jurisdictionless.

    Entropywins,
    @Entropywins@kbin.social avatar

    Maritime law!!!

    TerabyteRex,

    when you sue someone, its in civil court. its not about legality. the company is in the US. the family memebers will take them down and they no longer ha e their ceo.

    jabakobob,

    Courts aren't limited to prosecuting crimes that happen in their jurisdiction. For example, German courts are prosecuting sex crimes committed by tourists in Thailand. So just because there is no court nearby doesn't mean you can do whatever you want.

    @Jezebelley Kbin, because it looked cleanest.

    WhiteOakBayou, in Now that you've used Lemmy and /kbin which do you prefer and why?

    Prefer lemmy with Jerboa. But commenting from kbin because their sort algorithm is better

    jester, in What's your idea of relaxation/a relaxing time?
    @jester@kbin.social avatar

    I really enjoy playing a video game on one monitor and watching/listening to something on the second monitor. Hollow Knight + Critical Role got me through some tough times, tbh.

    Its not necessarily relaxing depending on the game, but I always feel better and more relaxed afterwards.

    BiggestBulb, in Now that you've used Lemmy and /kbin which do you prefer and why?

    I prefer Lemmy's UI but the Lemmy devs are just awful people in general...
