Raku Jar (mander.xyz)
My latest project has been to get my pots to fit off-the-shelf jar lids. It’s a fun exercise in precision, and I’m really happy with the results on this one!

I think it’s safe to say she’ll be eating well tonight.
Only a favorite because they’re so skinny and wiggly, I like showing the blunt-headed tree snake to students because they’re just not what people new to snakes think a snake looks like. There are definitely weirder species out there, but the big eyes and shoelace appearance amuse the non-herpers....
Merlins kinda breed in my area, but you’re more likely to find them during migration. I believe we found three on this day....
Sometimes warblers don’t care how close you are. This one was probably ten feet away. They are truly smol, and I like to crop my photos....
This cicada is such a brilliant emerald with gold tints. And they screm....

Sometimes I don’t even know what I’m photographing. This is a male blue-black grassquit doing a “I’m sexy” dance as he calls.
This was the biggest millipede I’ve ever seen. It was at least 6 inches long.
Sometimes, plain snakes are the most beautiful and interesting.

This stunning large specimen was just hanging out when we came across it. Absolute unit of a viper.
This is one of my favorite observations from this summer–a tailless whip scorpion with tiny jelly beans. She was really fiesty, with good reason! We shoo’d her out of the road, much to her displeasure, so scooters wouldn’t run her over....
I’d “seen” one of these before, but only in a “flying away during winter” kind of way. So, finding 8+ in a field this summer was wonderful! I love their little songs. Sparrows are one of my favorite groups of birds.
I snapped this photo with my phone in December, it was a gorgeous sunset and I love the way the clock looks in this photo. I am not a photographer and the photo is completely unedited, just something pretty I wanted to share. :)
