Trogons are incredibly fun to find and photograph. This is the only individual black-headed trogon I came across this year.
Sometimes, plain snakes are the most beautiful and interesting.

New to Mander, a Lemmy instance focused on the natural sciences....
I’ve had a lot of great birding days this year, but little compares to the sheer awe at watching 100,000+ snow geese lift off at once. Previously, I’d only seen three individual snow geese. I hope I get to experience this beauty and feeling again soon....
This stunning large specimen was just hanging out when we came across it. Absolute unit of a viper.
I prefer to get action shots when possible, and sometimes, the birds deliver....
This is one of my favorite observations from this summer–a tailless whip scorpion with tiny jelly beans. She was really fiesty, with good reason! We shoo’d her out of the road, much to her displeasure, so scooters wouldn’t run her over....
I’d “seen” one of these before, but only in a “flying away during winter” kind of way. So, finding 8+ in a field this summer was wonderful! I love their little songs. Sparrows are one of my favorite groups of birds.
I snapped this photo with my phone in December, it was a gorgeous sunset and I love the way the clock looks in this photo. I am not a photographer and the photo is completely unedited, just something pretty I wanted to share. :)
I repotted all of my plants a few weeks ago and then didn’t transition them slowly enough to being outside for the summer. A bunch got burns. Last weekend, we had a short but fast and windy thunderstorm roll through which knocked over several plants. My little andersoni (Swiss cheese one) lost two other stems that I am trying...
Ignore the chaos in the background. 😅 My dog came through and knocked everything over with the wiggles.
