Okay, kids, it's FRIDAY! So whatcha reading this weekend? 📚😎📚

I've got a load of new books to read. I don't even know where to start. A friend gifted me a copy of the graphic novel Black Hole, by Charles Burns, so probably that and another graphic novel Flights, which has like six volumes, and somehow I'm starting with vol. 2. edited by Kazu Kibuishi. And I plan to fit in The Vaster Wilds by the incomparable Lauren Groff.

How can Jake and Nog living on a SPACE STATION just move into their own place, when most people I know their age who live in New York City, on Earth, could never dream of it?

@allstartrek @ColesStreetPothole clearly not a supply problem

(watching DS9's "Hard Time")

Tonight's fun fact: The prison administrator in this episode, Rinn, was played by Margot Rose. She was a guest star in one other Trek episode - she was Eline, the wife of Kamen/Picard in the classic TNG episode, "The Inner Light".

@petertrek1 @allstartrek that is neat, because hard time is a ds9 style inversion of inner light specifically

vegetablegremlin,
@vegetablegremlin@jorts.horse avatar

@petertrek1 @allstartrek thats the absolute juice of ds9. TNG shoots a million shots going for the wildest ideas they can and DS9 takes them and bends them and looks for the cracks

vegetablegremlin,
@vegetablegremlin@jorts.horse avatar

@petertrek1 @allstartrek as such it is almost meaningless to say which is "better" & it thematically fits with one show exploring the farthest reaches and the other staying put and digging in

vegetablegremlin,
@vegetablegremlin@jorts.horse avatar

@petertrek1 @allstartrek excellent example of ds9 being an inversion of tng

vegetablegremlin,
@vegetablegremlin@jorts.horse avatar

@petertrek1 @allstartrek another example: picard's insight in all good things was that glimmer of humanity's true potential

by the time "trials and tribble-ations" came along that had become boring and mainly regarded as a source of more paperwork as its consumed into the bureaucracy

Mastodon went from 1.2M active users last week to 1.8M active users this week. That's not 70M users overnight, but it's something! 🙂
