Glad to see the entire #fediverse roadmap for Threads laid out. Mastodon and other Fediverse users will be able to follow Threads users and vice versa. You will also be able to see comments from Fediverse users on your federated posts in Threads.
The long term goal is to allow people to take their followers with them from Threads to other Fediverse apps. The last one is huge and wasn’t on my radar. 🤯
@taylorlorenz I clicked that link prepared to read about how the NBA was censoring awards speeches, but it's the opposite.
These people are pulling their sponsorship to the NBA in fear that someone might say "Free Palestine" during the show.
It's a fascinating, if disheartening, insight into the defensive crouch that "normie" American Jews have been in since Israel began blanket bombing civilian targets in Gaza.
@taylorlorenz I hate that these people are projecting a world where my options are either full-throated support for Israel's war crimes or full-throated support for Hamas's war crimes.
The Oct 7th attack was an atrocity that all civilized humanity should condemn. (And for the most part, that's exactly what happened).
But the response by the Israeli state (led by the corrupt, incompetent and deeply contemptible Netanyahu) is predictable -- it is what Hamas wanted -- and deeply evil.
@arstechnica A feature nobody wanted, implemented at great expense, can be used to do harmful things in a way that everyone could have predicted from the start.
Keep hammering that square block into those round holes, tech bros!
Meta probably been on the #Fediverse lurking for months, listening to everything yall say. They know you wanna block/defederate from them, they know the conflicts with the existing vs new users, all the gatekeeping, mansplaining, victim blaming and refusing to acknowledge the very real issues here. And they're probably gonna use it against you. They got big user numbers, celebrity and a narrative. If you want this place to survive Meta, acknowledge and fix the problems before they fix em for you
