Just to show I'm not making this up. I didn't seek out pizza that was particularly cheap or expensive, just a plain cheese for the kids and a Margherita for my wife and me. There aren't even any toppings.
I think I'd be questioning my life choices if I was part of a profession that people loathe so much that a video of someone getting horrifically bodied by a metal slide elicits absolutely zero sympathy just because the person in it is also a member of that profession.
This video has become a viral meme on Twitter/X, Bluesky, TikTok, and Threads. And folks on Mastodon have absolutely no idea it happened, I haven't seen it even mentioned.
Say what you will about this making Mastodon "better", it sure isn't the place to be if you want to know wtf your friends are talking about.
Threads isn't real for me until there's a Web UI and a (free) API I can use to post with in order to leverage my various automations.
Until then it's just kind of a novel curiosity. Neither of these things seem to be much of a priority but I am enjoying watching Twitter implode because other people are using it.
@Gargron Well for me the point is to make sure I have my name reserved over there.
I'm also a little concerned they wind up never actually implementing cross-instance functionality. I know it's promised but 100m signups later they may not bother.
@jawarajabbi@Gargron are folks really going to pretend that Threads, the service built by the largest social media company in the world, with 100 million signed up users in the first weekend (10x the entire fediverse), whose mere existence led to an anti-federation pact signed by over 500 instance admins, which isn't even federating yet, isn't exactly identical to just some random Mastodon instance that someone set up with 100 people on it?
@Gargron I have left my facebook, instagram and twitter handles all activated all for the same reason, to reserve my name. Hell, I have my name reserved on gab, cohost, truth.social, post.news, and spoutible, all for the same reason. Bluesky too.
Show me one other mastodon instance where 500 instance admins signed a pact to block it preemptively and I'll accept your claim that Threads isn't different 😂
