OP, never post xkcd or smbc without including the alt-text (and for smbc, the votey).
The Fujita Scale was replaced by the Enhanced Fujita Scale in 2007, but I think ‘EF-5’ sounds stupid, so I vote we just use the new measurements for assigning numbers but still call them ‘F-whatever’.
As expected every time guns are brought up in a political context, the comments are already full of people talking past each other while ignoring the real issues.
It is exactly as difficult to get rid of guns in this country as it would be to get rid of the electoral college, and the electoral college has done thing like lead directly to the covid pandemic being far worse than it had to be because Trump fired the guy we had in position to warn everyone if China leaked a pandemic.
Instead of discussing that, all you’re going to find in a thread like this is back and forth about getting rid of guns (nearly impossible) or decrying the department as redundant (the DHS is proof this is also meaningless) or the like.
Historically, the USA was the worst thing to ever happen to Iran, and as a result Iran became one of the worst actors in the Middle East. I suspect they continue to need a mutual time-out.
Given that we know going over the speed limit raises your collision rate, meaning setting the speed limit so low every driver will go over it is genuinely dangerous, do we have any studies supporting the claim that reducing the speed limit reduces the collision rate overall? I couldn’t find one, but it’s a surprisingly challenging search - I easily found studies confirming that collision lethality scales with speed, but that’s not my question.
Purely anecdotally, the vast majority of my collisions have been at very low speeds - in parking lots.
Yes, you are wrong. “Any” means you can arbitrarily choose whatever you like without them being fussed. It does not grant you (or anyone else) the power or responsibility to choose a gender for them.
