Why is it that red-brown “communists” are happy protesting with their new (old) fascist friends for a peace they full well know will not come by protesting in western capitals, while the imperialist aggressor is brutally suppressing all anti-war protests in their own country?

Anarchist are busy actually providing humanitarian aid in Ukraine or sabotaging war efforts inside Russia.

This is complete BS and you know it. This war will only end when Russia decides it has had enough of their current imperialist conquest.

Both can be true the same time. The Russian response is clearly imperialist because they consider eastern Europe to be part of their empire and thus fight against another empire trying to pull these now independent countries to their side. But that is IMHO no justification for invading another country, especially when these now independent countries have every reason to be suspicious of their former Russian colonizers.

That can be said about any technology…

The actual study seems to be unavailable and the article itself (from a right-wing rag) is so low on details that it is hard to say if the actual study makes more sense (but I am doubtful as this “institute” is just a shitty big-industry lobby organisation).

But according to the article they compared two imaginary simulations for 2023, and the result was 4.5% points less GDP. Besides the fact that this institute is not exactly known for their high quality economic simulations, this also makes little sense. As it currently does not look like there will be a deep recession in 2023, this can only mean the 4.5% are mostly less positive growth in their simulation. As Germany didn’t have such strong economic growth in many years this makes their “no war” simulation seem hilariously optimistic, and thus their “loss” calculation likely a huge over-estimate.

Also less positive growth is not the same at all as “costing” something. It just means that you don’t increase your earnings as much.

No offense, but I think you are missing the point a bit.

The cross posting functionality of the Fediverse is nice, yes; but in the grand scheme of things (and for most people to be honest) it doesn’t make a real difference. You can easily make a free account on most commercial social network sites as well and almost even use them as if they were one using delegated authorization systems like Oauth2. You are not really being locked in, but of course they will try to make it hard for you to leave, but that’s mostly just the network effects and convenience.

There is of course a reason why it still makes sense to federate, and that is to join forces to reach network effects similar to what you can find on the incumbent large commercial sites. The Fediverse is not quite there yet, but individual websites (like the old forums or blogs) would never get even close to offer similar network effects.

The real deal however is that you get to collectively own the social fabric you use daily, instead of it being operated by for-profit hell-holes that only see you as a product to sell to their advertisement customers. But this ownership comes with certain responsibilities, so you should start thinking about how you can help out with running fediverse sites or host your own 💗

Excellent. Keep up the great work then 🤩

230€ is a bit steep for a toy like that.

Also a missed opportunity to not include some easy to use SDR chip and antenna.

So security LARPing to distract from the fact that a centralized service can never by fully private. Thanks, but no thanks!

Depends on what you primarily use chat for.

Friends and family instant messaging: XMPP (Look into Movim or Conversations as clients)

Public channels for projects: modern IRC or Matrix. But XMPP can do it also

Voice chat: Mumble

Video group chat: Jitsi Meet.

Nextcloud Talk is also ok if you run a Nextcloud instance.
