The screen is way better particularly the 90hz upgrade, playing at 90 FPS is so much smoother than 60, since I mostly play indies and old games on the deck I hit that frame rate all the time. Also I used to love my Vita and Switch because of the Oled screen. I now can play my Vita and Switch games on a 7+ inches oled display with proper controls, plus all my pc games. The brightness increases makes playing games on the couch on plain day light feasible, previously I had to turn the blinds in order to properly enjoy a game. That’s no longer the case.
The battery upgrade is very nice, specially for more demanding games . I usually only play lighter games on a handheld as opposed to AAA and rarely play more than 2-3 hours per session so the battery has always been fine for me, however when playing games like Resident Evil the battery lasted about 2 hours, now it last 3.5 hours, enough for a full gaming session. Games like Hardcore mecha get over 10 hours which mean i could take the Deck on a Weekend trip and forget about charging it.
The sticks feel way better too, not as good as the PS4 controller, the middle part is still a little slippery but close enough.
All that said the games you will play are as as much fun in the Oled model than in the regular one. I sold my LCD Deck so the upgrade have been relatively cheap but if you have to buy a new one and find a sweet deal on an LCD model don’t hesitate, to will be able to upgrade to the Deck 2 in 18-24 months.
Except for very rare occasions (Remmant 2 comes to mind) I very rarely pay more than €20 for a game. I think that is a fair price, both for indies, which will sell less copies but are also smaller teams and for AAA, which are larger teams but also sell much more copies. Anything beyond €20 is a premium if you are not willing to wait.
I didn’t have thought much about owls in the past until I discovered this sub a few weeks ago. Now I love them. Also this showdown event is so much fun. Thanks you guys!
I Gad the 256GB model and got the base 512 OLED. Screen is much better, those 90hz are sweet, battery lasts roughly 40-50% more and the sticks are much better. But at the end of the day, the games are as much as fun on both systems.
Open world games are a hit or miss for me, enjoyed the hell out of the first Horizon, Red Dead Redemption and Spiderman. Couldn’t stand more than a few hours of Assassin Creed or Far Cry.
Game pass as a trend poses a serious dangers for developers and publishers alike, the moment people get used to pay €2-5 for a game it will be difficult for them to compete with €60-70 a game.
For us gamers is a blessing as long as the monthly price doesn’t exceed the price of the combined games you can play in that period.
I for example get 1-2 months a year of Game Pass. I’m getting 1 month next. I’m planning on play Dead Space, Lies of P and Persona Tactica, and, since I have holidays vacations this year maybe I will able to play either Starfield or Jusant. That mean I will be paying €10 for playing games Worth €180-240. Never in history have we gamers had this kind of deal.
I played the demo this past weekend and after the 4-5 hours it lasted I was kinda bored, it feels a little too automated. No potions, regenerating mana, loads of meaningless drops. It was really pretty though.
It would be the perfect phone for me since it doesn’t have a camera bump and no notch on the front, even if I never game on a phone. The sheer size and the water sink that the fan holes are is what keeping me from getting it.
