limerod, to android in Google's Android Earthquake Alert failed' to detect north India tremors today. Why?

I do for my own when not in use and have seen others do the same. The worst i have seen is people disable data.

limerod, to android in Industry of LIES - Mobile Game False Advertising [YouTube]

I used to have this problem years ago. After switching to a system wide adblock like PersonalDNSFilter and adguard(now), alongside Firefox and ublock-origin, I don’t have this problem at all. This and getting premium games and apps instead of crapshoots saves a ton in the long run. Anyway, fuck false advertising

limerod, to android in Google's Android Earthquake Alert failed' to detect north India tremors today. Why?

From the article, your device needs to be charging with location turned on. I don’t think that’s what the majority of the people do. That and probably a small sample size for the alert to be reliably sent to other devices.

limerod, to android in Fairphone 4 is finally getting updated to Android 13, here is what’s new

I know fairphone is not samsung with its large pool of resources. But why does it take so long to release updates. I thought Google had made updates less expensive for OEMs in the past couple of years. Fairphone should focus on reducing the time it takes to update to the newest android release and ideally align itself with android release schedule.

limerod, to android in Fairphone 5 Review: Hopeful Innovation?

It should not be. Heck, I have a ton of apps & games, and multitask like crazy. On my A22 5g with its dimensity 700 and 6GB of ram(+6GB virtual). It’s not really an issue. I only see things slow down when it’s thermal throttling. The author mentioned 0 throttling issues, so it should be fine for the fairphone with its SoC. The previous fairphones had even lower performance, but they have existed and are fine.

limerod, to android in Fairphone 5 Review: Hopeful Innovation?

App updates can take a little bit so either set aside time to do them or maybe google play !if you use that crap) will do it for you.

I have a smartphone with dimensity 700. If it can apply updates(multiple apps) in a few mins tops. The fairphone with its SoC should be fine.

limerod, to android in I wish Android 14 inspired as many app updates as iOS 17 did - 9to5Google

I disagree. If google hadn’t opened up, manufacturers wouldn’t have bothered. We also have great UIs like oneui with useful quality of life features not found in stock android. Not to mention a longer update cycle than even Google the developer of android.

limerod, to android in Google could give the Pixel 8 seven years of updates

7 years of security updates alongside feature drops, which hopefully translate into 7 years of OS upgrades, would be great. The hardware may not be as repairable as the fairphone, but I guess something is better than nothing.

limerod, to android in Google could give the Pixel 8 seven years of updates

Google makes money from providing service and advertising. It has more to gain from supported devices than without.

I see. Then, there’s not much we can do. This is one of those difficult to reproduce bugs, I guess. Relevant xkcd: xkcd.com/583/

limerod, to askandroid in How to remove google bar

If you re-add, google search go. Can you customize it? Or have you tried a 3rd party search app like pixel search and set it as assistant and see if that makes a difference? You can always try a 3rd party launcher. Apart from that, i don’t see more solutions.
