Gruber: “These app stores rankings suggest strongly that Twitter/X is dying, and I think Threads in particular is helping to kill it. Momentum and traction are hard to gain and easy to lose.” https://daringfireball.net/2023/12/app_store_rankings_as_a_proxy_for_social_network_momentum

@TimWardCam @Urban_Hermit @Thumptastic @Autistrain @actuallyautistic Love this thread because its about unnecessary workplace cruelty managers don't often recognize they're a part of.

The meeting during questionable times with the ambiguous subject & no body is stupid & not even legally necessary.

You can rip the band aid off & still provide details in mtg but to disallow people to prepare for bad news is performative & a sign of a thoughtless manager who's too busy for their people.

@TimWardCam @Urban_Hermit @Thumptastic @Autistrain @actuallyautistic My company has gone through a number of layoffs in the past 6 months. Each time, my manager communicated up front in team meetings very clearly that we were not having any more layoffs to our team - i.e. that everyone was 'safe' - and if there were other rounds of layoffs coming, he'd let us know immediately.

In the last month, we had a layoff & he was deliberately careful to not schedule any 'extra mtgs or surprise concalls'.
