Have you tried sous vide cooking? Everything ends up cooked perfectly! Agreed though that Beyond Meat reminds me of a juicy medium-rare burger. Besides the price, it’s a great option that I find myself eating more and more often.

Welcome to Lemmy and Beehaw! I just cross posted this over to !askandroid as well in case there are more suggestions!

ijeff, to fediverse in Mastodon has hit 2 million active users today!

While generally true, moderator tools really aren’t there yet on Lemmy. Growth will need to be more measured until work on that front catches up. There are also massive gaps that need filling in terms of the potential for spam. Keeping spam in check was challenging enough on reddit with various tools at our disposal - it’ll be even more difficult here.

I don’t think this is aimed at winning us over. It’s really just them doubling down on the type of users they want to see going forward (and it’s not us).

Do they really? I prefer quality over quantity. We don’t really need a massive influx of users, just steady growth.

ijeff, to fediverse in Lemmy just had its first major hack. What happens next:

Try clearing your browser data and cookies first.

ijeff, to youshouldknow in YSK PSA: if you're having any trouble logging in, staying logged in, editing a post etc... to Lemmy or apps, make sure you clear cache / cookies

You’ll probably need to log out and back in from your third-party app. For the browser, support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201265.

ijeff, to fediverse in Meta will kill small instances! Please read.

I do think this sounds plausible. If they could become a dominant instance in the Fediverse, it would be easier to supplant it altogether. This is why decentralization is paramount.

ijeff, to fediverse in Lemmy.world has grown by about 66.6% since reddit's API shutdown
@ijeff@lemdro.id avatar

There’s an inevitable adaptation and learning period for everyone, including smaller instances, but I think we should really be emphasizing the decentralization aspects of the Fediverse. Ruud and others are doing all they can to keep up, but everyone trying to consolidate onto lemmy.world isn’t great for anyone and only leads to even greater cost and technical pressures.

It’s interesting how quickly flat screens turning into a selling point over curved. It’s definitely a conflict between usability and design aesthetic.

Hey there, I just wanted to quickly mention that /r/Android mods didn’t make the submission here and we wouldn’t have! OP seems to have gotten that description from the !android sidebar. In case you’re interested, I posted a bit more context above.

I think part of the beauty of the Fediverse is that nobody definitively holds any cards. Don’t like Lemmy.ml? Fine, setup Lemmy.world. Don’t like that one? There are other options! The ability for folks to interact with one another without having to generate new accounts is a major benefit. There are still some growing pains, but I think we’re on a pretty solid path.

My only concern is about excessive consolidation making de-federation more feasible and leading to high cost pressures (I know Lemmy.ca admin mentioned their costs and it was growing quite a bit). We have some folks looking at ways to address this and to possibly bring improvements to Lemmy code with respect to scalability. Fingers crossed!

ijeff, to android in r/Android is now on the Fediverse!

We didn’t post this one up! I posted on /r/android shortly before bed and felt it would’ve been in bad taste if we had posted here without discussing with you folks first (I also admittedly slept in, as it’s a holiday today for Canada Day Weekend).

I was actually hoping to reach out to you and Mike to see if you’re interested in joining our mod team on !android. We hope to carry forward the same kind of content philosophy from /r/android prior to our lockdowns, namely discussions and items of collective interest, and avoiding specific, technical support questions that can overtake large communities - and think you both align pretty well with our overall emphasis on keeping it civil and cordial.

For a bit of background on the instance, @cole has been spending quite some time getting lemdro.id setup and optimized for us with a focus on ensuring backend scalability to handle load. The hope was to have an instance where major tech and other subreddits could feel comfortable moving to, without the significant performance issues that could leave folks with bad first impressions (a number of us were around for the waves of migration from Digg to Reddit).

Folks are currently reaching out to their respective mod teams at other large tech subreddits to see if there’s interest in joining Lemmy as well. We also have a number of developers with us exploring opportunities to contribute code improvements and fill gaps within the Lemmy ecosystem (e.g., accessibility improvements, moderator tools, fighting spam), with at least one bug fix already contributed to the Lemmy Github!

If you and Mike are interested, please do reach out! It would be great to have you both. Given Lemmy doesn’t support group PMs or Modmail, let me know if you want to connect somewhere else - I’m on Telegram, Discord, and Element but would be happy to chat anywhere.
