hobs,

I use MetaGer as my daily driver and you.com for deeper niche searches

hobs,

Even DNS traffic and IP address and packet metadata is extremely valuable to ISPs like Comcast and AT&T. They use it to control what you can and can’t do – for example, throttling your access to streaming video services that compete with their own streaming products or partners’ products. They spent millions to overturn Net Neutrality regulations so they can use what they know about your traffic to monetize you (steer you to their products).

hobs,

I use Moz too. It works pretty well, but I do get a lot of “confirm you are not a bot” messages from Cloudflare, especially when I’m using LibreWolf to anonymize my browser headers (fingerprint).

hobs,

They actually graze in national forest land in the US. I spent a lot of time tracking wolves to prevent the ranchers and the forest service from shooting wolves so they could safely graze deep into national forest land, destroying the local ecosystem, just as the rivers and bears and caribou started to recover after the reintriduction of wolves.

hobs,

Search (in order of ease):

  1. You.com
  2. Qwant.com
  3. MetaGer.org
hobs,

It’s the of everything. I listened to an interview with SAG-AFTRA by a new podcaster trying to survive and just when they start talking about the investors and products admitting to trying to build out till October when actors and writers start getting evicted… then some Amazon streaming services ad. And it happened again towards the end. And no warning or apology or mindfulness from the podcaster. So so depressing. The interview was great and happy to have heard it. Wish I could get access to information unpolluted by advertisement and capitalism. Thank goodness for the fediverse.

hobs,

Me too. I just want people (and the businesses they run) to deal with me honestly and fairly. If C-suite execs and investors were named and shamed over and over again, even for the little things, they might grow a heart and learn to build humane companies. Co-Ops give me hope. Free Geek in the Pacific Northwest. Independent book shops and restaurants. Qwant, MetaGer and Brave search and ublock origin and Mozilla and the fediverse give me some hope.
