I try to be very positive and cheerful about my profession: teaching. It's a fluffing tough job and you have to see the best in it - every lesson, every day, every student. And it can be the most rewarding and important job a person could do. But, my goodness, today was a challenge. When your leaders don't seem to care about their staff and are actively making it more difficult for you, you just get worn down. But. Tomorrow is a new day. Always. @edutooters

This is a truly important and groundbreaking book. The antithesis to Andrew Tate, Donald Trump and the like. "Lads" by Alan Bissett - very easy to read, clearly laid out, accessible guidance and advice on how not to be 'That Guy'. How to get teenage boys to read it? Now, that's the challenge... @bookstodon @edutooters

This is a fascinating book that I think all school leaders and those with the ability to create culture should read: "What Makes Teachers Unhappy and What Can You Do About It?" by Mark Solomons and Fran Abrams. Less about doughnuts in the staff room and 'optional' yoga workshops, more about real, systemic change @education @bookstodon

Interesting about the persistent narrative around teacher turnover...how would it compare to industry? Especially some companies that are allegedly "good" to work for.

@ZingerLearns @edutooters Interesting! But presumably these people don't leave tech completely. It's two different things to consider - how long people stay at one company but then move in the same industry, versus how long it takes them to move industries. I feel with teaching it is always said that a ridiculously high number of trainees leave teaching altogether within the first 5 years...

My goodness I am tired. There's a certain kind of teacher-tired that kicks in mid-week, mid-November, mid-MockSeason. I don't know what the solution is - I wish I did. Any suggestions...? #Education #edutooter #teacher @edutooters

I'm definitely late to the party on this - and I haven't seen the TV show - but I have just sat and devoured this in pretty much one session after it being recommended by a student. "Lessons in Chemistry" by Bonnie Garmus really is incredible. Amazing characters and such clever, clever writing about the roles and experiences of women in society. I loved every moment and I'm sad it's over. @bookstodon

Just finished "The Eternal Return of Clara Hart" by Louise Finch. I don't quite have the words for this book at the moment. I need to think on it for a while. Anyone who has children, or is a teacher, or has any contact with young people, or any people at all, I think should read it @edutooters @bookstodon

I only discovered who Steven Bartlett was when I saw him interviewed on Sunday Brunch, but I found him really interesting & thought-provoking. This book is too (and his podcasts, although I've only listened to a few so far...). Perhaps it isn't quite as revolutionary as I thought it might be, but lots of useful advice & ideas I can use in the classroom/staffroom and a better male role model to use than so many the students see at the moment? @edutooters @bookstodon

For the first (ish) time, I'm missing the birdsite - because I've just finished the most incredible book, and in the past I could have tweeted the author to tell him how much I appreciated it. And I can't now. But I can still shout about it here. Every teacher in every type of context should read "I Heard What You Said" by Jeffrey Boakye - about being a black teacher in the UK. It's astounding. @edutooters
