@JMMontpelier @academicchatter He also visited Albert Gallatin in SW PA. Gallatin had been Jefferson and then Madison’s Sec of Treasury until he went to negotiate the peace treat that ended the War of 1812. He went on to be American minister (US didn’t have ambassadors then) to London and Paris. In the latter post he and LaFayette became friends.
