It’s not easy to just open an LLC in every country.

db0, to fediverse in Lemmy.world announces blocking communities via Discord [update]
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

There wasn’t any specific legal issue from what I know. This was triggered by a butthurt transphobic troll who got banned in lemmy.dbzer0.com and then opened the call to defed. Then lemmy.world preemptively blocked the pirate communities, just in case

@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

To be honest, it’s not a huge deal. The copyright cartel can easily send dmca requests to your isp just for having text guidelines. Not everyone has the bandwidth or energy to deal with stuff like that.

I just wish this wasn’t done at the request of a transphobic racist who just did it to get back at is for getting banned for making transphobic and racist communities in this instance.

Not just transphobic but racist as well and going by the posted pebbleyeet memes probably also fascist. Sad that the lemmy.world admins took the bait especially after dealing with constant ddos themselves for kicking off their own trolls

db0, to technology in Google says AI systems should be able to mine publishers’ work unless companies opt out, turning copyright law on its head
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I agree with google, only I go a step further and say any AI model trained on public data should likewise be public for all and have its data sources public as well. Can’t have it both ways Google.

db0, (edited ) to piracy in [email protected] has the most subscribers out of any community according to lemmyverse.net
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

That’s kinda strange, not gonna lie. I was expecting a lot more subs in the meme communities etc.

I do find it interesting that when lemmy instances are mentioned, lemmy.dbzer0.com is mentioned as an afterthought, if at all :D

@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Ok I assumed you were thinking of something like TPM on the desktop as I couldn’t imagine any other way around it. For android the hardware backed attestation support is like tpm as well, no? Surely there’s a bypass for it if one wants to but there hasn’t been a reason to do it yet.

Edit :reading up on it, a lot relies on the encryption keys baked into the hardware and being impossible to read, right? If that remains to be the case, then ye I can imagine that would be an issue. Security will once again becomes the Trojan horse for exploitation

Can someone tell me how it can be “tamper proof”? Any encryption key inside chrome can be extracted and used to sign anything the user might want to send back.

From where I’m sitting it looks like classic overconfidence. I would say keep your eyes open in the future but don’t pick up the pitchforks just yet.

@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

No that’s not what copyrights are. The idea that they’re “author rights” has no basis in law

@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

That’s not how copyrights work. They only care about copying or replicating that data. The hint is in the name

Some people want instances which align with them ideologically
