Retired, grumpy, female. I live with a cat. And paint a bit, badly. I sew occasionally too. I'm ALL about stereotypes. Avi photo: me in Florence, before COVID and Brexit. Header photo: the view from Reigate hill on a cold, blustery March day; there are about a dozen people looking at the misty view into a distant valley.

Festive Food Folklore - Day 2

When eating your first mince pie of the year, you should make a wish. If you eat a mince pie on each of the 12 days of Christmas you will have good luck for the next 12 months. However, to refuse one is considered to be bad luck.

@FairytalesFood @folklore I had mine in January. I've stuffed it up already.

I genuinely think that books like To Kill a Mockingbird and Little House on the Prairie are so popular, because they represent a world where you can have a father that is loving, emotionally stable, and just.

@RickiTarr Um, I don't think Charles Ingalls was all that. He dragged his wife and small children on the pioneer trail because it suited him to, and in the first book Laura gets whipped with a strap. She's about four at the time.
