Senior Security Researcher, Proofpoint Emerging Threats.

I've been doing this cybersecurity thing for the better part of a decade now. Probably longer than that. I'm starting to forget. Time is relative, but it surely isn't kind to my memory.

I'd like to think I do cybersecurity well, but blue teamers collectively get told they're doing it wrong constantly. So maybe I just failed forward throughout my career.

Oh, I wrote a book. Its a good framework for setting up a virtual machine lab. See my bookmarked toots if you're curious.

Had a difficult weekend y'all. My wife got a call from her sister late on Friday night, about a family emergency.

Their Australian shepherd had suddenly collapsed. My wife left immediately, I stayed home to watch our dogs at home, and They tried to take him to an emergency vet, and... he didn't make it.

To make matters worse, the vet hospital didn't want to take posession of the body. It was a very difficult night. Her sister was out of town, and came back the next day, resulting in another pretty difficult day.

Bishop was a beautiful Australian shepard with blue eyes, and a golden brown and white coat. He was the friendliest dog, and when we got our dogs, the sister in-law helped care for them until we could pick them up, and would often dog-sit for us when we wanted to take very sporadic vacations. Bishop played with our boys, and taught them how to do things when they were babies. Bishop had a special place in our hearts and while he's gone, he's no longer suffering, the love and memory still remains.

So... I'm not really feelin' it right now, if you get me. So, if you had some expectations of me, I'm sorry but, Imma hafta ask you to lower them for a little bit.

October marks one year since the mass exodus from Twitter made my life exciting. For those that joined and stayed, I’m glad you’re here :blobheartcat:

@jerry soon as that asshole took over I moved. Next month will mark one year.

You're doing a wonderful job as far as I'm concerned. Thank you for hosting us.

This article from the EFF seems naive at best. They argue that Tier 1 ISPs should not police speech, which is fair, but their proposed solution is to just let hate sites sit around and radicalize people, then have the law deal with the few who cross the line between protected speech and criminal harassment.

Below is an extensive list of all the times 'just throw more cops at the problem' has solved anything:

  1. literally not once ever.
  2. See 1.

@malwaretech I never thought I'd see the day where EFF was kissing the ass of "freeze peach" techbros. Did Matthew Prince write this?
