One of the major issues is replication and propagation of illegal material. Because of the way that content is mirrored and replicated across the fediverse, attacks that flood communities with things like CSAM inevitably find their way to other federated sites due to the interconnectedness of the fediverse.

The only response currently to dealing with these types of attacks, even if they’re not directed at you, is to generally defederate with the instance being attacked. This means whoever was attacking the site with CSAM has won, because they successfully made it so that the community becomes disjointed and disconnected from the rest of the fediverse with the hopes that it will die.

This whole federated system is about whack-a-mole.

I hate politics, so I filter it out. Oh, look, somebody spun up a new instance! Time to filter out the same fucking communities I filtered on every other goddamn instance.

Sports is another one. I hoped everything would end up on fanaticus.social but no, we need our own communities on our own instances, making it so that there are seven communities dedicated to the same team.

Complaining about a Bethesda game’s performance on launch is like complaining that water is wet.

Are there bugs? Yeah, but there’s way less than literally every other Bethesda game released in the last 5 years. They were trending worse prior to the MS acquisition. Skyrim had tons of bugs, most of which were banged out by the modding community.

Doom was built on the Idtech engine and avoids the issues of re-using the 8th fucking iteration of the creation engine.

Fallout 4 had some pretty gnarly bugs, because it was a copy/paste from Skyrim. Vertibirds are technically dragons.

Fallout 76 was the most incredibly broken game I have ever had the displeasure of playing on launch. So much shit was broken in that game because it was yet again another copy/paste of the engine but with spaghetti netcode pasted on top.

Starfield has bugs. It has performance issues. But they are negligible compared to some of the older Bethesda launches prior to the MS acquisition. I’ve played the game for probably 30 or so hours without anything game-breaking. It hasn’t crashed on me and I was able to essentially play through the entire weekend without getting frustrated at glitches. That’s literally never happened to me with a Bethesda game before.

Ontario has proven that they don’t really fuck around with nuclear safety. We’ve had tons of different governments over the life spans of our reactors and not a single one of them would think twice about fucking with the safety or overall funding of our nuclear infrastructure.

The main issue with reactors is not their running over time, but generally the amount of money and engineering required to build the plant initially is a huge upfront cost with a massive cost over time to pay for the skilled labor. A lot of European reactors fell massively behind schedule because the labor would take shortcuts, causing structural issues, requiring more money to be put into the project to rectify problems like that. The most precarious time for a nuclear plant is during construction.

You have to understand that nuclear plant is quite old and not built with current specs in mind. Post-Fukushima improvements were mostly about dealing with external damage. They beefed up reactors against natural disasters, and the Americans took the chance to also ask for more protections against deliberate actions - modern reactors are designed to withstand a direct artillery strike without causing a meltdown or accident.

Ontario is already like 40% nuclear. BC has regulations against nuclear technology in all forms as a non-nuclear province. They disallow hosting of missiles (not that we have any) and building of any power plants.

That being said, it’s probably time to take a good look at those regulations because they were probably designed in the 50s and we’ve built several generations of impeccably safe reactors since then.

Post-Fukushima improvements incorporate a lot of proofing against natural disasters in addition to even more passive nuclear safety. The Americans used the opportunity of the overhaul to ask for reactors to be designed to withstand artillery strikes and high levels of damage (read: deliberate plane crashes) without melting down.

Yeah it would be fun for it to be a bit more clunky in ways, but I think the way they’ve done gravity is alright with me. I like hopping around on Mars, it’s very cathartic to just jump and float and land and jump and float…

Has anybody discovered heavier gravity planets? Are the heaviest Earth-level like Jemison? That’s the kinda trudge I’m looking for.

I don’t think the strength of the power armor is something we’re asking. Just an immersive overlay when we’re wearing gear.

The space suits already have a pretty good amount of strength with how much they can be customized and some of the legendary drops are amazing. We already have “mechanized” suits that increase carry weight. If anything, I would just expand on stuff like that rather than making it a very powerful assault system.

The indoors Fallout map is the worst thing ever. I don’t think it’s ever once helped me out of a jam or cleared up confusion. If there are multiple levels (and there always are) it’s all just slapped together in a single plane on the map so it makes less than zero sense.

It’s better than usual because Microsoft put literally all their QA teams onto Starfield, and to wit, it’s been probably the least buggy launch of any Bethesda game I’ve ever played. It’s funny because they were getting worse.

Skyrim had bugs, became a classic. Fallout 4 had basically the same bugs, because it was the same engine. Vertibirds are technically recoded dragons. Fallout 76 was once again a copy/paste of the engine with netcode slapped on top and Jesus fuck was that probably the buggiest game I’ve ever played on launch.

It does get better with time, but it’s inexcusable that they need to rely on the community to make it better. Skyrim got re-released 20 times and they never once improved on it in any meaningful way besides deploying it on a newer engine and building a high resolution texture pack rather than addressing the UI or map issues. A solid decade later and I’m still playing with the same UI mods and map mods.

I would love to know what shops are selling rather than guessing based on the shop’s name. I remember running around Jemison for like a half hour trying to figure out who the fuck sold ammunition when I started.

Skyrim needed UI mods, and to wit, still needs UI mods, despite being re-released like 15 times with limitless opportunities to improve basically anything - instead they focused on high resolution textures, which is something that the fanbase basically already makes on launch week.

The menus are pretty fucking awful. The map is really really bad. For a game that’s like 90% based around fast travel you would think they would have a map that makes sense.

Skyrim never improved on any of these aspects even though it got re-released like 15 times. I still have to use UI addons a dozen years later. I love that Bethesda has a great, strong modding community, but it’s really really shitty that they’re constantly relied on for regular, baseline things that shouldn’t be bad.

I feel like putting Axanar in quotes is a huge misunderstanding of the fact that Alec Peters was literally trying to build his own competing Hollywood-level studio off of the Star Trek IP. The guy was selling Axanar coffee and Star Trek t-shirts, taking in donations and trying to hire 'Trek alumni for the cast. He’s literally the guy who broke the system for everybody else.
