I live in the UK and Portugal, near the sea in both places. I am learning Portuguese at the moment and it's very tricky but good fun. I used to work in the university sector but I'm now retired which is a great relief. I completed a doctorate in 2018 using Actor-Network Theory AKA ANT to help describe an organisation during a state of change. I enjoy reading very long modern literary books, anything around 1000 pages works for me, but I also like science fiction and good detective novels.

The Librarianist, by Patrick deWitt. You are an elderly retired librarian who had two ‘interesting’ things happen in your life (both over 50 years ago) and it’s occurring to you that maybe you’ve been hiding the rest of your life, and there might be time to move on. 3 of 5 library cats 🐈 🐈 🐈.

Who's seeing Oppenheimer this weekend? It's inspired by the 2005 biography by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, AMERICAN PROMETHEUS and you can watch the trailer here. Genuine chills >>

@WalterScottPrizes @bookstodon I’m going on Sunday. I’m reading the book at the moment, it is absolutely fantastic a real page turner. I think it’s a pity the film won’t have time to spend on his youth and university career, it so interesting. He was definitely more than a little eccentric but clearly a genius. Pity the American government after the war didn’t appreciate him. I throughly recommend reading the book, unfortunately I won’t be able to complete it before Sunday.
