@haikushack @bookstodon @poetry Yes. Poetry and art. We’re expected to do it all for free.

I’ve been illustrating a book of tanka for five years now. It’s hard work, and while I pretty much completed the tanka way back in 2018 I’m still not satisfied with some of them.

The illustrations are taking a bit of time, but that’s mainly because I need the words to be right first.

Yet if I took the same amount of time on a novel, I would be expected to be able to charge for it.

Such a disconnect.
