Seleni, to memes in Merry Christmas

Given how far the Grinch’s cave was from the town, that must have been some prestigious noise.

Seleni, to asklemmy in How does attraction feel like to you, mentally, physically and emotionally?

Well, you shouldn’t close yourself off just because you’re afraid. But don’t force yourself into trying to love either, just because you think you ‘need’ to be in a relationship. That sort of thing rarely goes well.

If you’re having trouble ‘getting back out there’, it’s probably easiest to develop hobbies, and meet people that way. Then you have a better chance of finding someone walking a similar path to you, which at the very least means you get a good friend out of the deal.

Seleni, to asklemmy in How does attraction feel like to you, mentally, physically and emotionally?

For me, ‘attraction’ is simply being physically attracted to them; a fluttering in the chest, so to speak, enjoying the eye candy…

When it changes to ‘love’ though, I found my thoughts to be more on wanting to take care of them, seeing them smile, being happy when they are happy. It goes beyond the superficial and the physical. I suppose the best way I can describe it is it makes my soul sing.

I think the Ancient Greeks, with their words for different kinds of love, were more on point with these sorts of things.

Chemistry is something different again. Lust and Love are all well and good, but you need more than that to make a relationship work. You need mental maturity on the part of both parties, the willingness to move beyond and work through problems, and something of a similar life trajectory in order to make love last.

Or just eat more good healthy food. I know UPS drivers that eat a bit of breakfast, don’t eat lunch, and then do a decent dinner. And of course they get a good workout every day. But they’re still overweight because a lot of the food they do eat is, well, fast food and junk food.

Seleni, to asklemmy in What is your exotic pet?

Five ball pythons; two Normals (Monty and Lucky) one Super Mojave (Hisui), one Jigsaw (Amber), one Mystic Spider (Jasper). And two Leopard Geckos (Spot and Rover).

And anyone who tells you reptiles don’t have personality is lying. Jasper is very snobbish and a homebody, Hisui is a coward but tries to be brave, Monty is laid-back and lazy, Amber is adventurous, and Lucky is very gung-ho (and food obsessed, because his previous owners starved him, then dumped him on the side of the road).

Rover is very confident, and Spot is a grumpy old man.

Seleni, to videos in Abortion Rights: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

No, because health complications can always develop. Instead I’m going to leave it to the mother and her doctors to decide, since they’re the person who is putting their body at risk and professionals who know what they’re doing.

Seleni, to videos in Abortion Rights: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

Have you actually looked at a fetus in different stages of growth? Because they’re not sentient, and not all that human-looking even. Just a parasite that may, one day, be a human.

If you mean super-late-stage, then at that point the abortion is a health issue, and you and your uninformed opinions getting in the way only cause more risk of death for the mother.

And what about ectopic pregnancy? Please don’t tell me you’re dumb enough to believe those are salvageable. If that happens, and an abortion isn’t carried out ASAP, they’re fatal.

Seleni, to news in Tech bros' attitude to female colleagues stuck in dark ages

That’s partly it; the PNW does seem more open minded most times; but I bet the other part is you’re a guy.

This isn’t the sort of thing women tend to talk about with men, for obvious reasons. I bet those women on your dev team have some stories, if you could get them to open up about it.

Seleni, to microblogmemes in Warm fuzzy feelings

Nothing aside from the ideology, symbols, behaviors, and derogatory & dogwhistle terms, of course.

Seleni, to technology in More Than 80 Percent Of Americans Can’t Afford New Cars

The problem I run into is time. And sometimes location. My previous job, for instance, was far enough out that there was no bus service; I had to drive. My only other option was a 2-hour transit ride and then a half-hour bike ride, partly on gravel roads.

And my friend has a job that’s 15 minutes by car, or 45 minutes away by bus. Even worse, with recent construction messing with the trains, his commute has gone to 2 hours plus.

And this is in a city with a decently robust transit system.

Teddy Roosevelt was on one of his speech tours when a girl offered him a badger. He said yes, named it Josiah, and would often sic it on congresspeople who were running late or being otherwise annoying.

Or copy Roosevelt’s idea and use badgers.
