Ok. I am tired of Infosec.exchange being sluggish. I just submitted a crazy order with Hetzner to upgrade the instance. Hopefully the last time for a while. I ordered a dell AMD Genoa 48 core server with 256 GB of ram to act as a database and redis server, a dell 64 core sapphire rapids server with 256gb of ram to act as the single front end/puma/streaming server, and an amd 7950 with 128gb of ram to run minio (insourcing from Backblaze).

I ordered all with 10g network interfaces to be connected to the same switch.

I continue to see issues with Backblaze performance causing issues with posting.

This will consolidate the environment down from about 13 servers to 4 (I will keep using less expensive servers on 1G networks for Sidekiq if it can’t run on the sapphire rapids server.

I will be putting that behind Fastly for global distribution and ddos mitigation. I don’t know whether I’ll keep serving media via bunny.net or try to do that with Fastly also. Bunny works pretty well and is cost effective for media delivery.

Anyhow, changes are coming. Thanks for patience.

@jerry Not sure if this is just from an admin perspective, or if it’s perhaps my usage hours, but from a user perspective I’ve noticed no degradation in performance since the massive DDoS months ago.

Very aware that UX != Plain sailing on the back end!

As always thanks for your hard work.

@jerry Ah, fair play. I also have comparatively very low engagement/interaction/follower counts so probably a very different experience for you.

My cat is great at catching spiders. There are however a few caveats:

  1. Spiders must be sufficiently enormous to be fun. Somewhere between “Oh lawd he coming” and Shelob.

  2. Spider catching only happens at night, and only in the bedroom.

  3. Cat will make a few chirping noises to alert us that a spider is being hunted.

  4. All spiders must be delivered as gifts onto the chest or face of one of us.

  5. Note I only said great at ‘catching’. Delivered spiders are very much alive and very fucking irate about the current state of affairs.

The comments and abuse reports about people sympathetic to the Palestinians or to the Israelis is getting out of hand. I understand this is an incredibly charged and difficult situation for everyone. Seek first to understand before being an asshole to your fellow humans from behind the relative safety of your computer monitor, please.

We have a huge problem. A crisis even.

There is no tea. The tea box is empty. No more.

Disaster averted. It turns out my wife buys what she calls ‘emergency tea’. She doesn’t drink tea.

Now for a cup of emergency tea.

@hayo It’s started again. Found the wife’s emergency stash.

Nearly closed the laptop for a moment there.

@farewell_ladmin @jerry Film is so much cheaper until you get to the good stuff. I’d recommend trying it, but I think Jerry is enamoured with the beautiful high end shots, as is everyone really.

Rage has somewhat subsided. Just simmering for now.

Also absolutely amazed at how much of the world relies on MicroSD, and how even good cards can barely survive 48 hours of read/write saturation. They feel like consumables at this point.
