I say we should collectively strike from streaming platforms to send a message. If you want to watch shows, collect DVDs from the library or thrift store and rip them to a USB drive. If you have a newer TV with a built in media player, it can read the video formats on the USB drive for quick access to your favorite shows.
I suggest you avoid short-form video apps entirely. There is a correlation between reduced interest in learning/ADHD and Short form video formats 123. When you use sites like Lemmy and actively read, you are at least becoming a better reader and critical thinker. Short form video shows you fast-paced content tailored to you that’s designed to keep you addicted and entranced. From what I’ve seen firsthand, once people start using these platforms they have a hard time stopping.
When will the greed stop? At what point will these corporations realize that the average American is completely stretched thin financially and will have to cease unnecessary expenses? They’re all just shooting themselves in the foot.
How are people surviving at all right now? Between this and the price of EVERYTHING going up, companies are still raising prices and adding premium features while wage raises are at a standstill. The people who are lucky enough to be in unions are striking and the people who aren’t in unions are getting desperate.
I thought there would be a lot more discussion on reddit about the new privacy changes and migrating to Lemmy. Either people genuinely don’t care or Reddit is actively suppressing discussion about this to keep their user base.
