I’ve been buying used 8TB HGST SAS drives on eBay for $50USD each, so far no issues but I really don’t care if they die. Basically disposable at that price point.

Everyone rents gear, from the biggest Hollywood films down. The biggest blockbuster you can think of was shot and edited on rented gear.

Nobody buys a techno crane and just puts it in a storage room in Apple HQ.

Staff costs aside you’re probably looking at $40,000 tops which is cheap cheap cheap for production costs

And if you don’t have $40k, rent everything except the phone and make your movie. Easy.

Ya it’s not at all controversial. Aside from the techno crane, everything else I could see is MSRP at prosumer pricing.

So it really is Apple lowering the barrier to entry. Even if you only have a few of these goodies, your footage will look fantastic if not cinematic.

You’re basically running a BSD Unix system with an actual nice GUI. Any Unix resource is fine if you’re ok digging into the guts a bit.

The anti Apple gang will be salivating with not terribly relevant Apple stuff to say though.

At this point I don’t really care that much.

Pretty much all of Canada was on fire this summer and the entire country was dumping carbon into the atmosphere at record levels, far greater than anything man made in a year, so some watches that are being offset is pretty low on my list of anxiety inducing items.

Global warming is a thing but we may already be well past the point of no return when countries like China and India don’t care in the race to industrialize everything.

I have 120TB in my unraid server so far and it grows every year.

Running a supermicro chassis now which is amazing if power hungry and a bit loud.

And at over 100lbs, a thief is gonna blow out their back trying to steal it.
