Posed this question over at the Sky place but I'll do it here, too, because I'm curious & want replies!

So, hopefully, since you're [ people] we're all familiar w Leland Gaunt, the Needful Things villain that can find something to tempt most people... I'm pondering, cuz I'm hard pressed to think of something I'd be vulnerable/susceptible to. Probably a 1st edition of a rare book. Or perfect health.

If anything goes, what about you?

@stina_marie @horror

he could tempt me with the deed to the store at an impossibly low price.

I mean, who could resist a store full of tchotkes and trinkets?

@stina_marie @horror oh but that's the catch, you can check out any time you want... but you can never leave!

(who put the eagles in the background? :??? )

📽️ What's a horror movie that you feel is so: striking, unique, disturbing, profound, &/or beautiful that it transcends to the level of ART?
(Not for just a scene, or moments, or even a performance, but for the ENTIRE film.)

Four that immediately occurred to me:

The Shining
The Devils
The Wolf House
There Will Be Blood

I can think of more but I'm curious what YOU all think...

I have to go eat & do stuff but I'll be back on later to see what you all said!

@stina_marie @horror I don't think found a movie more disturbing than "Audition".

@stina_marie @horror oh, definitely. I wasn't able to finish hereditary, for example, but the feeling was very different 🤔
And there was a Spanish movie that played as a police thriller but with horror elements about people who disappeared but they were like, shifted realities and you could only glimpse them, like reflections or the corner of the eye. Don't know why, but kept me awake with nightmares for almost a week 😅

@stina_marie @horror a pity I don't remember the name, and have not been able to find it via Google.

@flori @stina_marie @horror nope, was Spanish, and mirrors is a remake of a Korean movie. But the release would be around that time, we had a brief moment of great horror films, with "the devil's backbone", "abre los ojos", Rec...

Also, while I am in "spanish horror films", I do recommend "la cabina". Again , not blood chilling horror, but that kind that leaves you feeling uneasy. 😊

@flori @stina_marie @horror OK, so I decided to give Google another chance and I think it could be I am misremembering two Balagueró movies and mashing them together: Darkness (2002) and The Nameless (1999). I think I'm going to watch them again... Just for research sake 😉

Reading some comments, it's clear beliefs are stickier than evidence.

There's a contingent of numbskulls who simply cannot (will not?) make the effort to envision a future in which this is scaled up. Trying to find a way to deal with that is one of the great challenges of our time.

@TechConnectify in my particular case I feel is not scalable with current technology, and that you dirty americans should start coalescing cities and promoting public transportation 😆

@TechConnectify we absolutely should bother with renewable energy. But renewable energy can use batteries that have less-enegy-dense but easier to supply materials, like thermal accumulators (which usually uses sodium), or batteries made with non-"exotic" materials. Cars cannot afford that.

Fortunately, I think we will see many advances in energy storage in the coming years. We are already seeing papers about new electrolites and battery types so I think is a matter of time.
