So, one thing that irked me with Firefish, and I see is the same on Sharkey, it will only let you mute an instance, not block it. I wonder why that's a thing?

Marie,

@zola But it does let you block instances over the instance info section for admins only though cause obvious handling instance blocks per user is more intensive on the backend/frontend

Marie,

@anthropy I would actually take that antenna if it were meant to improve mobile data connection :lolsob:

Okay just made an issue in the firefish git repo

Marie,

@alice @Amelia @luna Well firefish post import "works" it has a lot of flaws hinting to the reason it's marked as experimental like it being able to just crash the instance, doing posts in weird orders, spam notifications of every user ever mentioned in posts and forgetting posts.

When I went about adding post importing for *key, mastodon/akkoma/pleroma, instagram and twitter I made a special function just so it doesn't have the ability to do all the spam related stuff as well as ripping out the federation of the posts to all other instances making remote users not get spammed by notifications which is also the primary cause of it being able to crash the instance the user is importing on. (ofc people can obv still see the posts if they fetch the note)

Post importing is now available in the develop branch

The following posts imports are supported:

  1. Mastodon/Pleroma/Akkoma
  2. *key (this includes all misskey forks including firefish)
  3. Instagram
  4. Twitter

Instance admins can also disable/enable the importing for users on per-role.

Marie,

@kopper It has a special function in NoteCreateService which has all federation related stuff ripped out of it

Marie,

@kopper not really as with those being ripped out it will also not create webhook notifications for mentions, pings and etc.

The goal was mainly to let people have their old content be on the same platform without annoying anyone down the line.
