But what is web 4.0?

@jerry Web 4.0 only runs on Itanium.

Well, after enabling captcha and watching spam registrations continue + a bit of taunting from the newly registered spam accounts, I feel confident that this is, in fact, not driven by bots. Yet there are aspects that still look like they are.

@jerry Of the captchas I’ve tried, the mainstream choices were entirely futile.

One obscure captcha that I was using presented an ASCII banner (akin to the banner command; man banner on vqrious Unix systems) and then asked the user what was shown, and that did reduce the spam.

But if any service is sufficiently interesting, it’s a target for automation.

@jerry i was wondering. How would the Fediverse react if the CIA had an account here? I remember how they reacted to the CISA account :blobcatrainbow:

@SwiftOnSecurity @jerry @hayo The spooks already have accounts, and federated servers, and archiving.

Kinda their job.

As for a self-identified account and server somewhere in DC or Utah or wherever, sure, welcome.

@jerry @SwiftOnSecurity @hayo Yeah; who cares?

Wouldn’t want them on here, only because of the inevitable hassle factor.

On their own servers, sure.
