i’m doing it because I want to make the fediverse more friendly place, in hopes of making it more welcoming for new users, and the nicer place in general. But I wonder how much is just less bots.
I don’t want to get too political in shower thoughts, but this would solve a lot of the hot button issues if more people just had safer and supportive environments to escape to and volunteers / paid professionals to help them on the other end.
I don’t think this is just a capitalist problem. I don’t think there’s been an economic system in human history (practiced, not theorized) that helped the have nots to the same degree as the haves.
I don’t think it’s fair to call it -flation. It’s entirely optional, yeah the prompts are annoying as hell, but for me I’m almost glad because now I don’t feel bad for not tipping. I still do at a sit-down restaurants, but this was the push I needed to stop feeling obligated to tip at the register, etc.
Obviously the ideal is no tipping culture at all, but within the bounds of what we as individuals can control, this isn’t terrible.

I feel like Fediverse users are nicer to each other and more generous with upvotes than reddit.
