I'm looking for some recommendations on podcasts about books, preferably fiction. It can either be deep-dives or quick reviews of new or favourite books.
Either in English (Australian), Dutch or German.
I really have no point of reference 🙂
@nevele@bookstodon two of my favorites are Our Opinions Are Correct (Annalee Newitz and Charlie Jane Anders diving into sci-fi and spec fic) and The Maris Review (Maris Kreizman is a fantastic interviewer).
What’s the BBC up to in the Fediverse? What have they learned so far from their experiments? And how is all this like the early days of the internet? In the latest episode of Dot Social, Flipboard CEO @mike chats with @Ianforrester, Senior Firestarter at @BBCRD. (How cool is that title, btw!)
"The Verbenubi are super excitable. They tend to love… everything, and with some passion. Show them a new rock, and they will talk about the new rock for hours. They just like stuff."
"All of the Verbenubi serving aboard the Jupiter’s Ghost strongly embrace their identity as Nerds."
"There are several Verbenubi working in engineering, and they often spew streams of technobable as if it was actually science."
A new episode of Dot Social, the first podcast about the open social web, is out! In it, Flipboard CEO @mike chats with ActivityPub co-author @evan about what the protocol unlocks for builders and entrepreneurs, how open-source social networks change our relationships to content and each other, and why any of this matters at all. Learn more and take a listen!

@histodons
Realized a lot of people think of Minimum Competence primarily as a newsletter, I think. It is also a #podcast. If you like #legal and #law#news, give it a shot. Episodes are daily (M-F) and usually in the vicinity of 10 minutes.
Hosted by me and @gina. We're proud of it and hope you enjoy it.
@DarkMatterZine@kimlockhartga@bookstodon I rarely get print ARCs unless to pass along for library book club consideration, because I have no idea what I would do with them all! I just get dARCs on my Kindle.
@jillrhudy@kimlockhartga@bookstodon I get both. I never even try with Edelweiss because in my experience it doesn’t work. I hate Netgalley because it’s too much effort then they remove the books at arbitrary deadlines while demanding reviews before I’ve finished. For ebooks, I want them emailed to me. I can read paper but not how you think. So it’s complicated.

I can give input. I will try to be civil but bear in mind I have the same strong emotions you expressed on the podcast, & feel Gaslit Nation, President Biden, and most Democrats - (yeah I'm not even considering Republicans, they'll have a terrible take) are gaslighting Palestinians. #FreePalestine#podcast@GaslitNation
US Rep Rashida Tlaib is about the only one who made a decent statement in the US.
She even uses "cycle of violence" and STILL doesn't f*ck it up like everyone else.
Grieving lives lost. Necessary. Emphasizing shared humanity. Check. Occupation and apartheid are to blame. Facts. And it offers hope or gives actions to take to fix it - 1. End US aid for apartheid government (i would argue defund the Pentagon and US war machine too...) 2. End the occupation and dismantle apartheid system.
There's also a Palestinian contemporary art group on Facebook - look for the Palestinian artists, writers, intellectuals. Find out what's going on before going on and on about support for an occupier.
@fictionable@mjohnharrison@bookstodon Would love to hear this. Can’t find it in my podcast client. How about just posting the rss endpoint url, please?
Can fiction fight the lies of war? The #Ukrainian author, TV personality, punk and revolutionary Irena Karpa talks writing and making music in the shadow of conflict on the @fictionable#podcast
Why do we need to talk about #empathy when there are so many problems to solve in #cybersecurity? 👉 If you've seen me champion empathy around here (and other corners of the web), it's because it plugs into 3 of our essential human needs:
💜 CONNECTION: we all need an emotional bond with someone who pays attention to us and cares about us to maintain our mental (and physical) health. We also need to be part of a community to develop and thrive. Empathy provides that.
💜 VALIDATION: to see someone else recognize our emotions and experiences as valid (and valuable) is essential to feel accepted and seen and/or heard. Knowing we're not the only ones to experience confusion, fear, doubt, and many other perfectly human emotions helps us understand, process, and overcome these blockers.
💜 SAFETY: empathy helps us feel safe enough to persevere in spite of our perceived misgivings. It provides an emotional safety net that gives us the courage to experiment, to trust (ourselves and others), to hope, and to dream.
You can choose to see empathy as a buzzword or dig deeper into its layers to discover the practical, palpable benefits you can draw from it.
