Hey #bookstodon , have you come across any books with misleading and / or bad blurbs? Please share!
I just finished Wole Soyinka's "Chronicles from the Land of the Happiest Peopleon Earth" and.. that book has a misleading blurb with a big spoiler. Wish I hadn't read the blurb. (Good book, though. More on that later.) #amreading#booklove#publishing#blurb#librophile@writingcommunity@bookstodon

Yes, plenty but I can't remember what books now. I make it a rule to never read the blurb just before starting the book, so often it's a complete giveaway.
@ferngirl@writingcommunity@bookstodon way back in the 90s - a historical romance whose blurb made it sound like the main character was going to be a Chinese servant girl - no, the MC was the usual heroine of the time, and the poor servant girl didn’t even get enough of a subplot to justify being on the blurb.
That blurb has stayed with me because it was so egregiously bad, and also I paid good money for an interesting MC which I did not get.
