Lots of great updates to the designer search this time:
New search criteria: whether designers have done any meet-the-designer events; and designer names via a text search
Search inputs are repeated back to you
There's now a reset button for the search inputs
For mobile users, there's now a horizontal line between the search results and the random designer highlight, so there will hopefully be less confusion between the two
Patterns with more than one FO attached to them no longer appear in the search results more than once
If you've chosen to search for patterns by designers from marginalized groups, this search criteria doesn't get lost when you navigate into subsequent pages of the search results
Red and the Wolf Designs takes inspiration from fairy tales, books, movies, and mythology. Combine that with goth influences and her favorite color, red, and you have a lovely menagerie of designs.
One of them is Cloak of Visibility, a pi shawl with an opening that allows it to stay on your shoulders without a pin. We all have a gorgeous gradient we've been waiting to use - we've found the project.
You can now switch between 'or' searches and 'and' searches for several of our pattern search features! (Previously, only 'or' was available, so this really opens up your ability to be precise in your searches!)
And we've refined the pattern search summary statement - it's now bulleted rather than being all one sentence; we hope this makes it easier to understand.
Catherine of Snooptigger Crafts loves a fairly mindless knit with a little bit of interest so you don't get bored, and especially likes to knit while watching films. We also love that, it's a wonderful time of year for it.
Tintagel socks, the featured pattern today, would be a great movie knit. They look like stained glass windows by using slipped stitches to great effect. Find more here: https://payhip.com/SnooptiggerCrafts
Sue, https://mstdn.social/, has a passion for lace and colorwork, and takes inspiration from the landscape around her home in the gorgeous West Yorkshire UK.
Pictured is the incredible Feather Cowl. We could see this lovely thing in so many different color combinations, and Sue mentions it's especially good for stash busting, which we're always game for!
The #FastenOffYAL discount period comes to an end after midnight tonight (ET). That means you only have about 11.5 hours left to use code FO2023 at checkout on a selection of patterns from our participating #crochet and #knitting designers.
Sometimes all you need is a sumptuous texture, and that's exactly what Craftdoodling (@craftdoodling on Instagram) provides - an amazing array of different techniques, fibers, and textures.
With an eye for both style and comfort, we love Kiran Cowl - a lovely addition to her Cutilitarian (cute + utilitarian!) collection.
Barbara of Fuzzy Mitten (@fuzzymitten and fuzzymitten on Instagram) takes inspiration from childhood books and toys & modern animation to help people learn fun and useful knitting techniques while making toys they'll love.
One of our favorite patterns is for Ursula and Bernard Bear! These cuties would be well received as gifts or to brighten up your own holidays!
Bunnymuff, at https://payhip.com/bunnymuff , strives to make relevant and clever additions to your home and wardrobe; blending traditional and contemporary styles, with a focus on colourwork, thoughtful materials, and slow fashion. Most patterns are easily adjustable for a personal best fit in an extended range of sizes.
Blue Citrus Pullover, shown here, is a great example of their talent for designing beautiful colourwork.
#FastenOffYAL fans: We want to hear from you! We're planning meet-the-designer events so you can get to know more about our participating designers. We'd love to know what questions you have of our designers, and/or what topics you'd like them to discuss.
NEW FEATURE: Our pattern search now lets you search for pattern name text! It's a simple partial-match text search, insensitive to case and accents. E.g. "flow" returns results like "Flowers in August", "Flóward", "Birds have flown", etc.
It combines with other pattern search features, e.g. "flow" and selecting Knitting for craft will return only knitting patterns which match "flow".
The 2023 #FastenOffYAL has started! If you're wondering what this is all about, you can check out our website at https://www.fastenoffyal.com. In particular, check out the 'search and shop' area; this is where you can search for independent designers and @crochet and @knitting patterns.
EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT: Volunteer sign-ups for our 2023 event have begun, and run until November 10! The volunteer signups we get directly impact which activities and games we can have, and which platforms we can support them on.
