I'm seat-of-the-pants about #WorldBuilding in some ways, but there's some arbitrary math guiding the scope of #Hammondal. The most important is probably the 1/8th rule, which says I cannot explicitly describe more than 1 location in 8 ... for every building/etc I describe, I need to leave 7 for the GM and/or later development. This is both a maximum and my target, so I'm trying to get very near to that 7:1 ratio but without exceeding it, price-is-right style. [continued] #TTRPG#TTRPGDesign
I've launched a Kickstarter for my next book, an SOE Sourcebook. There are early bird rewards, so you can get a bargain if you're quick.
It was SOE agents that assassinated Heydrich, and they were very important in the battle for Madagascar. The sourcebook will give you everything you need to play similar adventures, and plenty more.
@sdunnewold asked to write some recommendations for the #DiceExploder blog festival, so here we go!
My first recommendation is the interview with Jay Dragon on the #QueeRPG podcast: Violence Is The Loudest Person at the Party (https://queerpg.com/podcast/press-pause-lets-chat-1/). Jay is one of the most original and insightful voices in the indie RPG scene, and this interview perfectly demonstrates why.
This just went out to backers of the Tome of Intriguing Options #Kickstarter for Honor + Intrigue. It is an early access draft of our next H+I project; a monster book called Horrifying + Fantastic Creatures. If you were a backer, check your inbox/spam folder for the codes. For now, this is exclusive to backers. @ttrpg#ttrpg#ttrpgs#fantasy#scifi#sciencefiction
The last bit of conversation between Matt, Howard & Myself. Thanks to them for the candid talk. Here we discuss both being new to a group of established #ttrpg players and the tragedy of a game not coming together. @ttrpg
In this episode we take a look at some of the news coming from the ttrpg sphere, Justin gets annoyed about something and we answer some good questions about kickstarters, monsters and historical events.
What's the best way to bring new players to the table that have never played a #TTRPG before? The Dead Unicorn Club bang around some ideas. @ttrpg https://youtu.be/twXzqJD4iOE
Being new to any hobby can be a daunting experience. Sometimes you just can't avoid it. But like eating a new food you can discover something you'll love for the rest of your life. @ttrpg#TTRPGhttps://youtu.be/g7QzHj2eMTU?si=nXYIumeCxsb6M3JZ
Sometimes it's hard bringing our heroic crew together for the first time in a #TTRPG. Sometime mistakes are made. Understanding what works and how to get players to work together can turn a frustrating first game into a memorable one. @ttrpghttps://youtu.be/x7mK8XtWucM
As a GM how do you handle player backstories in #ttrpg. Here are a few opinions, and while mine is not popular, I STAND BY IT!!! @ttrpghttps://youtu.be/CyMOwMA61pY
#TTRPG memory
Our eldest had a 13th birthday during the pandemic lockdowns. So we organised an online #DoctorWho RPG for him and some friends.
They played Torchwood operatives, and at the start this woman appeared. She gave them some information, warned them not to harm the creature ("I know what you Torchwood people are like!"), then disappeared.
It was some minutes later that they realised they'd had a call with The Doctor. Their reactions were fantastic :)
This week I taught an ethics session in a class on engineered living materials. Before class we read about a brick made of plant fiber, fungus, and programmable bacteria, which could make temporary structures in disaster areas. In class we played a game about decision-making in that context, and discussed their ethical reasoning.
You'd think everyone's process is different, until you find out you're the odd one. Find out who create's their #TTRPG experience differently in today's video. @ttrpghttps://youtu.be/FOejVzHEIOI
Against all expectations, our #kickstarer#Afterwords received in 5 days the same amount of money as it had received in the whole of the last 3 weeks. I had more or less surrendered, but now I renewed my hope!
My essay on the vision of death among #neurodiversity and 4 #TTRPG on the theme of death need a boost.
As one of my interviewees said, death in RPGs is always seen as heroic or futile. Help us to make it something simply human.
I love science fiction RPGs, but I find combat troubling. It is hard to make combat 'fun' with bombs, guns, drones, satellites, night vision, etc. Fantasy combat allows for a sword vs dragon combat. Sci fi combat should take place long range. Also modern combat is too real. No one knows anyone who was killed by a dragon, but we all know someone who has been shot.
since all my followers here are #ttrpg related, let me share this with you: I made a small selection of #inktober entries from this year that art ttrpg-related. the map one is kinda inspired by Tower of Doom :) @ttrpg@rpg@RPG@rpg@ttrpgs
I ran The Darkness over Nijmauwrgen, an adventure for #BlackSwordHack from Chaos Crier #0.
I though that by speeding it up I could make it fit in a single evening, and boy was I wrong 😅.
The players really enjoyed the atmosphere of the city and its mysteries, which is great, but it meant that they took their sweet time luxuriating in the creepy backstreets and the adventure progressed at snail pace 🐌.
Nice module, clearly better suited for a short campaign. 🐟
