Simple things amuse simple minds: I "The Sharp Quillet" by Brian Flynn, book 14/15 for my 2024 and this passage made me smile. Dry understated humour (on the) rocks! @bookstodon

Reading Moray Dalton's "Death in the Forest" for and this passage rings very true as authentically Anglophone :

“You shall have that over and above the fare. Compris?”

Speak English but throw in 1 French word, to a cabbie in a Spanish-speaking country🤦‍♂️

"Preantepenultimate" is 1 of my favourite words. So how apt that my preantepenultimate book for 2023 is ALSO a favourite. My first 5/5
@thestorygraph for this year's DSD (also includes a mini rant about a trope I hate in )

The last book I read for literally ended with a murderer smugly smiling & accepting plaudits for his courage and cleverness in shooting a man in the back as he tried to run away. Personally, I find this MUCH more my kind of entertaining.😀

Starting Bush's "The Case of the Missing Men", book 11/15 for my & laughing at myself: I DID "leap to an unwarranted conclusion based on these initials" not the ACTUAL, REAL writer normal readers would think of - I thought of Albert Campion🤦‍♂️😆🤦‍♂️ @bookstodon

4.5/5 @thestorygraph for Molly Clavering's "Because of Sam", book 7/15 for me in 2023. Nearly flawless, delivering all the middlebrow muddles and mellow magnanimity one could hope for. @bookstodon https://app.thestorygraph.com/reviews/72af6223-a3c2-4d46-bd13-9b43f47812dc

@thestorygraph for "The Case of the Platinum Blonde" by Christopher Bush. Book 6/15 for my doth conscience make cowards of us all (or at least of Travers and his readers)? Worth finding out, imo.

An intriguing start to "The Case of the Platinum Blonde", book 6/15 for my - Ludovic Travers directly pointing a fully loaded Chekhov's Rifle straight at the readers in chapter 1. 😀 @bookstodon

TFW a paragraph about names in a book on etymology puts a snippet of poetry you last read 30+ years ago into your head: "Es war einmal ein lattenzaun mit zwischenraum, hindurchzuschaun" (Bonus points for any who know why the poem always reminds me of Emo Philips😀) @bookstodon

A major disadvantage to reading several print books in a row from your TBR shelf is that when it’s time to read your next ebook, the is nowhere to be found and impossible to locate 😳🙄🤬 @bookstodon

Why do I love my ? Not just because I can read 1-handed, though that's critical. When I am on holiday far from home with long passages of passenger travel ahead, I have a diverse library at my fingertips, as my "currently reading" list @thestorygraph shows
Regency Romance, Golden Age style locked room mystery, indigenous Māori/Pasifika shorts, physics popsci and however one categorises @scalzi 😁 @bookstodon

In her description of the 'arrival' of Alleyn, Ngaio (the g is NOT silent, folks) Marsh unintentionally highlights why I love Allingham's Campion. For him, tempus really did fugit, at more or less real pace.

I love my Kobos. I had Kindles from 2010-2017, switched because I wanted to get out of the Amazon. The quality of the reading experience is great. I've progressively sized up, going from a 6-inch reader to a 6.8, then a 7, and now my primary reader is the Kobo Sage, an 8-inch reader ( a size that Amazon does not offer).

I'm a bit of a low-key ecangelist for , always love reminding people that Amazon is not the only game in town.

I use #Linux as the main OS on my computers, but also use Windows 10 on one.
For the sole reason to download the #ebooks I buy.
I play the occasional Windows-only game as well, but those I can do without.
I can't do without ebooks.
I really, really wish there was an open standard for getting any ebook, with or without #drm, onto any device without having to rely on a single piece of software from one company.
#EU, do something!
