Starting Bush's "The Case of the Missing Men", book 11/15 for my #DeanStreetDecember & laughing at myself: I DID "leap to an unwarranted conclusion based on these initials" not the ACTUAL, REAL writer normal readers would think of - I thought of Albert Campion🤦♂️😆🤦♂️ #AmReading#ebooks#Kobo#GoldenAgeMysteries@bookstodon
TFW a paragraph about #English names in a book on etymology puts a snippet of #German poetry you last read 30+ years ago into your head: "Es war einmal ein lattenzaun mit zwischenraum, hindurchzuschaun" (Bonus points for any who know why the poem always reminds me of Emo Philips😀) #AmReading#etymology#nonfiction#poetry#Deutsch#ebooks#Kobo@bookstodon
A major disadvantage to reading several print books in a row from your TBR shelf is that when it’s time to read your next ebook, the #Kobo#eReader is nowhere to be found and impossible to locate 😳🙄🤬 @bookstodon
"It was a beautifully illustrated copy of 'Treasure Island'. "
Reading my Dean Street Press edition of Young Mrs Savage, my TENTH novel by D.E. Stevenson, and come across the very first reference in any them to one of her famous cousin's works. #AmReading#ebooks#Kobo@bookstodon
Why do I love my #Kobo? Not just because I can read 1-handed, though that's critical. When I am on holiday far from home with long passages of passenger travel ahead, I have a diverse library at my fingertips, as my "currently reading" list @thestorygraph shows
Regency Romance, Golden Age style locked room mystery, indigenous Māori/Pasifika shorts, physics popsci and however one categorises @scalzi 😁#AmReading#ebooks@bookstodon#Aotearoa#Mystery#ScienceFiction#Science#Romance
In her description of the 'arrival' of Alleyn, Ngaio (the g is NOT silent, folks) Marsh unintentionally highlights why I love Allingham's Campion. For him, tempus really did fugit, at more or less real pace. #AmReading#Aotearoa#GoldenAgeMysteries@bookstodon#ebooks
I love my Kobos. I had Kindles from 2010-2017, switched because I wanted to get out of the Amazon. The quality of the reading experience is great. I've progressively sized up, going from a 6-inch reader to a 6.8, then a 7, and now my primary reader is the Kobo Sage, an 8-inch reader ( a size that Amazon does not offer).
I'm a bit of a low-key ecangelist for #Kobo , always love reminding people that Amazon is not the only game in town.
@bookstodon
I use #Linux as the main OS on my computers, but also use Windows 10 on one.
For the sole reason to download the #ebooks I buy.
I play the occasional Windows-only game as well, but those I can do without.
I can't do without ebooks.
I really, really wish there was an open standard for getting any ebook, with or without #drm, onto any device without having to rely on a single piece of software from one company. #EU, do something! #DailyRant#PetPeeve#ADE#AdobeDigitalEditions

I use a #Kobo, since 2011. Very happy with all the ereaders I've bought from them over the years. But even they are Windows-centric which is why Calibre is such a useful tool. @jarulf@bookstodon
