harry315, Alternative title: Vaccine tested in mice shown to reduce alzheimer’s disease symptom of lessened anxiety.
mountainCalledMonkey, So it’s increasing anxiety?
harry315, That is - according to the article - correct and intended.
theywilleatthestars, Really hope that future generations will hear about how it used to be normal for people to start losing their minds in their 60s and 70s and be just as horrified as we are when we, like, hear about how historical figures had five children and all but one died of the pox
Black_Gulaman, well we’re safe right? those were in the past, I mean, the 60’s and the 70’s, that was 50 years ago, we’re now in the 2020s. we’re all past that, lucky eh?
EnderWi99in, I think you may have misread a word there.
Cow_says_moo, For those who didn’t read the article, so far it’s only being tested in mice with promising results.
omgarm, I’m 33 so I hope that if this ever works for humans I am still in a suitable age range for it.
robocall, I didn’t read the article so thank you.
Black_Gulaman, we need a tldr bot.
speck, I always assume something of that nature when I see headlines like this
June, Haven’t we cured Alzheimer’s in mice like a dozen times or something?
Cow_says_moo, Scientists are evil and just enjoy giving mice Alzheimer’s.
surewhynotlem, The problem is that these mice don’t have Alzheimer’s. They’re bred to develop the symptoms: “plaques and neurofibrillary tangles, which comprise abnormally aggregated β-amyloid peptide (Aβ) and hyperphosphorylated tau protein”
www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/…/full
But that may not be what causes Alzheimer’s. That might just be an effect, and treating the effect might not fix anything.
ultratiem, We’ve probably cured every disease in mice ten times over. But one thing about science and medicine: an animal =/= a human.
Tigbitties, It's a start but it's miles away
GustavoM, Well, 5% is better than 0%. So theres that.
