blindsight,

It’s only a matter of time until Twitter goes bankrupt and/or is forced to shut down by regulators. At this point, it seems like it’s just a matter of when it will happen and how much damage it will do from misinformation in the meantime.

On the other hand, maybe if the signal-to-noise ratio of reliability gets too low on Twitter, it will no longer cause as much damage because people will know it’s unreliable, but I’m doubtful. Based on how many QAnon believers there are, it’s clear many (most?) don’t require any evidence to believe incredibly bizarre and outlandish claims.

I do wonder how well the Fediverse will handle big content moderation like this; I suppose the idea is that there are so many tiny players that it’s impossible for governments to regulate them all? Or will they just get shut down one at a time if they are unable to keep up with the regulatory requirements?

blindsight,
