For the Bird Nerds: Scientific Studies on Prey Capture Techniques

So, I don’t expect this to be popular, but for those of you into the dryer, more scientific facts, I’ve come across some research papers on how raptors chase prey and studies of how prey responds to attacks and how evolution has played a role in the techniques of both parties.

If you’re into owls and hawks, but also reading and charts, here you go!

When Hawks AttackFocused on the goshawk, this study put a camera on the birds to track their POV in pursuit to study chase tactics. Most detailed article with charts, pics, and equations, but also the hardest for a non-scientist to read. I was still able to get a lot of cool things out of it though, so still check it out!

Behavior Under Barn Owl AttacksStudy of voles and mice, 2 of them just common owl prey, and their tactics on surviving owl attacks. Short, all text, but easy read.

The Trigger for Barn Owl Attack Another quick, easy read. All text again. Their attack trigger seems much like a house cat.

Curious about your opinions on these. Let me know your thoughts if you read any of them.

TWeaK,

Berd Nirds
