NathanielThomas,

It’s interesting, I was watching a video about Russian history and apparently Ukraine hated Russia for the famine in 1932 and 1933. So when the Nazis rolled into Ukraine they were welcomed as heroes. Historians believe that if the Nazis had worked with the Soviet satellite nations to create buffer zones around the Reich that they potentially could have created a good defence barrier to Soviet aggression. Similar, of course, to how NATO works today.

Instead, the Nazis, in their infinite stupidity, wanted to exterminate Slavs and create lebensraum, so they united the Ukraine people with Russians for 75+ years. Ukraine even handed away their defensive capabilities (nuclear weapons) to Russia in exchange for a permanent peace pact. And Russia went and blew it all and created enemies again.
